Okay, I know this question's been answered numerous times, but since I moved out of OC to Riverside, I now have a 50 mile one way commute to work each day. I know I'm competitive, but now that I'm driving such long distances and sitting in traffic much longer, people are 1000x more annoying. Especially since I drive my sedan; people seem to try and "show me up" and get as close as they can behind me, not use a blinker and go into the next lane, pass me up, and get right in front of me without a blinker and it drives me insane! When I drive the wife's 06 coupe 5AT, I don't get nearly as competitive and upset. I also don't think people bother me as much as they think the coupes are 100x faster than the sedan?

Maybe it's just a manny transmission thing? The whole idea of "shifting" is kind of a rush. The unrefined exhaust growl of the VQ35DE coming through the midpipe definitely doesn't help, either.

The bottom line is, I always feel the need to punch it when I'm in first gear at a stop. Well- for one, first gear is such a short gear, you gotta punch it to get it going if you want to take off. Most people's first gen FM platform 6MTs feel the same way, right? Very stiff feeling clutch, very tall gearing?

My good friend;

I punch my 2007 6MT Coupe all the time for the hell of it---something about the VQ35DE engine that is extremely exhiliarating. This morning, I was mad all the way to work because som cop was in front of me for over 12 miles going less than the speed limit intentionally. So, I couldn't get my normal does of morning excitement before getting to work. Again, everyone just kept driving slowly around me. I don't know why but i do know i was getting mad at this phenomenon by the minute.

if the officer is going less than the speed limit... i happily pass the officer going the speed limit As i HATE when people get scarde to go the speed limit and pass the officer. I have never got pulled over doing that. But i bet they run my tag... but i have nothing to hide... no overdue tickets.. no warrants... so run my tag all you want.

My clutch and flywheel are toast, so I try to be nice to them. I should be swapping them out shortly.

Still not sure if I'm going to do it myself or pay someone else to do it. SpecialtyZ quoted me around $1300 for an RPS clutch/Flywheel combo and install. Or I could "save" $500 and do it myself (read..."Free tools" lol)

Damn that's a lot of money. I remember how annoying that was when my '99 Maxima 5mt's clutch went out. Slip slip slip.

Is that around the price for a decent clutch, or is that more performance oriented?

Sadly to say, that's a very "good" price for a clutch job on our Gs. The dealership prices is around $2300 mainly due to the flywheel being "unserviceable" and the part is like $1100 not includeing the clutch itself or labor.

You can get an exedy or ACT setup for less, but the quality makes me worry. This setup has replaceable friction material meaning you never have to get a new flywheel again, just the $35 friction material kit.

The combo is around $800 and the labor is $500.

My concern isn't whether I can beat them, it's that there's an overwhelming amount of cars that're just annoying. I just wanna get home, I don't feel like playing whose car is faster... but it always turns out that way.

Jacko and yourself are experiencing the Nascar phenomenon. The cop = yellow flag...as soon as that cop exits it becomes a checkered flag and everyone is trying to regain their position in the race.

Thats right!

What made me really mad yesterday at the cops is that he drove at those speeds almost close to where i work. So, today i decided to take my car to work again instead of the little nissan, so that i could get the real G feeling of driving hard, with the hope that i won't meet any cop today.

Thank God, no cops today---so I flogged my car like a little kid playing with his chuchu train---i was so satisfied after i got to work--felt like having sex for 30 minutes without a break.

My G-35 Coupe is my playground and Jack hates to be given time out by cops--my sanity depends on my ability to lay hands on the car when i want, how I want, and where i want it.

Out here, it seems to be the economy cars - Civics, Corollas, and lots of 4 banger mid-sized sedans. There's always traffic, and it's not necessarily whose car is faster, it's more of who can be an unsafe idiot, speed and weave in and out of traffic - which isn't worth doing - and as much as I'd like to show them up, I have to tell myself to let it go.

But I didn't used to be that way- it must be the inner guy of me. And again, driving the rev-happy 6mt doesn't help. lol

Kind of makes me think of a few weekends ago when I was taking those back County Roads from one smaller town to the next. I picked up a cop and knew the fun was over. So I kept it at about 5mph over (sometimes 10 ) and finally he/she gave up and passed me. Picked a new route and opened back up! Sometimes I think they expect us to just give up and punch it so they'll pull us over and give them something to do (in those small towns at least)...
