I've looked at 3 KA engines, 2 manual and 1 auto. The auto car had 2 parts in the end of the crankcase where the main shaft of the transmission went in. The pilot bushing was seated behind some other larger bushing, but the pilot bushing had no play. One of the manual engines had the same setup, except the pilot bushing had a good deal of play, sliding back and forth and could spin pretty freely, but not a side-to-side play. The final manual car had a different setup altogether, with no outside metal bushing and a much thinner and longer pilot bushing. My question is what the heck kind of pilot bushing do I need? The part I get when I ask for that part for a 93 240sx doesn't slide in, and people have (as well as the FAQ on 240sx.org) said I just need to tap it in with a socket. However now that I have the tranmission up and *almost* in, it won't finish sliding in and I'm wondering if I have something wrong. I'm not sure what year car the transmission is from, nor do I know if that matters at all. I know the pilot bushing fit around the end of the main shaft before I hammered it in to the end of the crank, but I can't really tell if it got at all warped because of the hammering. Anyway, any advice? I would like a second or third opinion on this, and thanks for reading my huge post.

Oem should be a bushing. Nissan Motorsports has an actual bearing available for this. It should fit snugly in the hole in the crank either way. Unless you are pounding on it really hard, it should not deform when you install it.

You made sure to take the old bushing out first right? AND, there isn't an automatic bushing allready in the engine is there? I ask because I'd forgotten my new motor had come from an auto and I spent a good hour wondering how the pilot bushing fit in until I discovered that it allready had an auto bushing in there...I had to dremel that sob out first. It shouldn't be TOO hard to get in there, just knock it on in once you know everything is right.

I pulled out the auto bushing before attempting to put in the new manual one. I only tapped it in lightly so I think I should be ok in that respect. The transmission just seems to hit a certain point and not want to go past that point, regardless. I'll give it another go though and see if I can't make it go in, unless someone else has an idea as to why it won't go further.

You should have a clutch alignment tool if your doing this and that tool should have the same pilot shaft diameter as the pilot shaft on the trans. Take that tool and see if it freely slides in and out of the pilot bushing. If not you likely mushroomed the end of it hammering it in. If thats the case you have 2 choices. Remove that one and install a new one with out mushrooming it or take a drimel and debur the lip of it till the tool slides in freely. Then rettampt the stabbing of the trans. If your not using an alignment tool to line up the clutch disc that may be your problem right there. The splines on the trans input shaft would be off center from the splines in the clutch disc not allowing it to slide in.

I do have an alignment tool I used to install the clutch, so it should be centered. I can get the transmission almost all the way in, save about an inch and a half, at which point it refuses to move in any further. I'm thinking it may be because the engine and/or transmission are leaning backwards or forwards, so the transmission is not going straight in. That's just my theory on it, so I'll have to check on that and report back.

look up along the trans and engine mating surfaces. take a wide veiw do they appear to be parallel. If not try to get them to be. Then give a slight lift on the trans bellhousing area while pushing it forward.

Ended up being a very slightly off clutch disc. After we realigned it, and gave the transmission a couple of really good pushes, it slid on in.

Im having trouble locating this bearing online for a 240sx... closest thing i could find was one for an 80's Z at courtesyparts.com. They called it a roller pilot bearing. I will continue searching though.

are dealerships able to order this part? or are there any places you know of online that have this part? I am interested in using this part for my next clutch upgrade.

Something about NISMO I found out recently is there are basically 2 stages of this company The old NISMO and the dealer connected NISMO. Anything the dealer can get now through nissan is the new NISMO and the catalogs only reflect newer nissans. The older nissans like the 300z and the 240 stuff is ordered through a different catalog threw a different source. So likely this kind of stuff can not be ordered threw the dealer unless the dealer uses the old method of ordering parts directly from NISMO,Which most dont.

Bought mine from a local store called Bap Geon. If all else fails, you can try and get it through them.
