http://www.xmradio.com/myfi/index.jspI could get XM anywhere went, with a portable rechargeable unit.

My biggest gripes about air travel are the crowded seats and insane boredom, so this would be perfect:http://xmfan.com/viewtopic.php?t=32723Quote »"I picked up my MyFi at CC last night in Washington DC and this morning flew to LA enjoying live XM all the way! I can't say enough good things about MyFi. It's very well thought out and a pleasure to use...even at 30,000 ft."[/quote]Now I just need to nag the parents.

Yeah, those are nice. I'm considering getting Sirius in my car, since it's only $150 for the equipment and install for the holiday season. All the decent radio stations around here are dying. The only remainging good classic rock station just changed to modern pop crap...as though there are not enough stations that play that **** already...

The best thing about satellite radio is that it's the same eveywhere...you don't lose signals over distance or between states. And no ads!! Yay for no ads!

What are the differences between XM and Sirius? My headunit is XM ready, so I could save some cash there, but from what I have heard (which isn't much) Sirius is better.

The only thing I don't like about that MyFi thing (from the pictures I have seen--never used one) is that it has way too many buttons. Take a cue from IPod, or get a scroll wheel or something. That many buttons just means more to accidentally push while its on your belt or in your pocket.

XM has more music channels, and the sound quality for music is better. Sirius has more news and talk stations, but sound quality for music channels is reduced to make room. XM has Opie and Anthony and Major League Baseball. Sirius will have Stern and the NFL in 2006. Sirius focuses more on popular music, XM plays more obscure stuff.

Sirius has better coverage in Cuba, Costa Rica, Mexico, Canada, and Alaska, should you ever decide to go there. Otherwise, XM can be picked up anywhere south of Anchorage and most of the northern 2/3 of Mexico.

Im not a fan of the Jensen equipment Sirius sells, otherwise the others (Kenwood, Panasonic) are great. What tuner are they offering for $150? My guess is the Jensen -- avoid it.

Sirius is $13. XM is $10. Both offer commercial-free music. I hate when companies have my credit card numbers, and XM is the only one that does paper invoice billing. Both of them offer discounts for pre-paid multi-year service and multiple radios (I have two, XM Skyfi and XM Roady).

I listen to music, ABC News, Fox News, stand-up comedy, local traffic, and MSNBC, which both XM and Sirius have. But XM won me over with a cheaper monthly fee, more music channels, and better equipment.

XM also lacks NPR. I dont know if Sirius has local traffic and weather yet.

Thanks...man...I love NPR, but I can get that on my normal tuner, so that shouldn't be an issue. I'm thinking XM now. Just so long as I can have my classic rock stations. I don't care about sports channels, but news and weather are always nice.

What did you pay for your equipment/install? I won't need the little diplay thing, since my Pioneer head unit can do that part. I was thinking I'd do a remote start kit on my car (I HATE being cold), but I may go with an XM install instead.

When I first put the Skyfi in the Honda Accord in 2003, it was about $275 I think for both equipment (tuner+car kit) and installation through an FM modulator (additional cost).

I later paid $100 for labor to have it reinstalled in the Q (removed it from the Honda myself).

I recently I replaced the Skyfi with the Roady, which was easy enough to install myself within a half hour (using a cassette adapter). I bought the Roady new on eBay for $55 shipped.

If your head unit is XM ready, I assume you'll need to add the tuner box that goes under the seat, and an antenna. Installation labor shouldnt be more than $60-$100.

I hardly ever listen to the radio or CD's in my car so for me all the XM and sirus radio stuff is a total waste.

Listening to the car is more pleasing 99% of the time.

Good reason I couldn't hear anything like that if I wanted to over the engine and exhaust lol. I like it that way tho cause finally after replacing/rebuilding everything I have some confidence that parts aren't bad

i considered getting XM in the car, but I can't afford it right now. My car is ready for XM, all I need is the antenna and some wiring.

Now that MyFi looks awesome. I would put it on level with a very very nice MP3 player

I had XM roady in my 240sx for a period of about 6 months. I only used it on longer drives every once in a while. It was more of a convience factor to listen to the cd player when I was driving the short distance to work. If you do alot of traveling, XM would be a great investment. For just driving around town, I felt like it wasn tneeded. I still have most of the stuff, minus the antenna. If anyone wants it, hollar at me a price.

well i dont know about you, but i like the fact that radio is, well umm

FREE?

whatever. get a cd changer and put on your own stuff to make your own playlist.I think its kind of funny/sad when someone pays to have a corporation make a playlist for them. I like having music on all the time that i like.

How about the iPods? I was thinking of getting one with the FM Modulator attachment? I've got tons of MP3s on in iTunes on my computer. It's just a handheld device you set anywhere in the cab. Seems like a really cool idea! Has anyone tried it?

I heard BMW or someone was even looking at a way to intergrate the iPod into thier audio system.

I use XM to learn about new music that I cant hear or find anywhere. Thats a big advantage that XM has over Sirius (and FM) -- new and unknown music. Plus, you cant get comedy, news, and talk on a CD player.

Danny: Those FM transmitters are worthless. An actual modulator, however, wired into the antenna, would be worthwhile.

Check out what this guy did:

http://www.aggiemail.net/carpod/

After hearing about the whoas of FM Modulators I began a little research and found where lots of folks have learned to "hardwire" an iPod into thier car.

Still related, my cousin has a mobile XM thing. He has a little anteana that he runs out the window/sunroof and it transmits the stuff to 87.7 FM. His sounds great.
