5000+? Really? Of course! And that doesn't even count the retired ones! I guess we wanted the satisfaction of knowing we could end the Earth several times over. And this is just us, imagine the stockpiles that China and Russia have. Pretty scary stuff.

I have a hard time believing anything the government says about facts and figures. I think they say a lot of s*** for shock value or just to get a reaction from someone else. If they have told the truth, I personally believe it's a mistake. Some things you just don't talk about. Some things other countries just don't need to know. It's OK, IMO, for other countries to have a healthy fear of the unknown. It kind of keeps them in check.

I'm sure that 90% of those are small grade tactical nukes, maybe 500 of those warheads have enough explosive power to destroy large area's of land. Keep in mind that cruiese missiles, JDAM's and bunker busters all have nuclear capabilities. The bulk of our ICBM's were deactivated when Clinton was in office. Just be happy that we actually know where all of our plutonium is, unlike Russia who has absolutely no idea, which is where almost all weapons grade plutonium that the bad guys have came from. This is just a ploy to find out who has nuclear capability.

THIS.

Hell, the US still keeps the top speeds of some of it's jets a secret, they sure as hell aren't giving us an accurate number of the amount of nukes we have.

It's NOT scary. It's reassuring. SOMEONE is always going to have a bigger stick. Better us than many of the alternatives.

Meh, good point.

Too bad our world for the most part, sucks. I wish it was as simple as, "let's just get along."

I'm just glad I live here in the U.S.

What's more scary is North Korea with their 10. No clue what those crazy bastards are going to do.

The whole point of having nuclear capability has changed completely over the decades. It used to be just the best way to blow someone the f*** up. Now it's a political tool used mainly for the procurement of international aid and to prove to other nations that you have "arrived". . They keep them in glass enclosures for everyone to look at and say "Hey...you know Norway has got nukes now" "Oh yeah? good for them"
It's become a measuring stick of a nation.
Nobody probably even knows how to use the things anymore
"Uhhh...we point this end that way right?"
(Mostly satire if you can't tell)

Referring to the speculated replacement for the SR71 Blackbird, the Aurora?

You might enjoy this little nugget of information. (Link to a pdf from DARPA)

This isn't a surprising number at all. What does it matter if we say exactly how many we have? What matters is what kind, deployed where, and in what way. I'm sure this is an accurate figure, but it's completely meaningless.

If you think about it, we've got 14 Ohio-class SSBN's deployed at present, each with 24 SLBM's on board. That's 336 missiles, 5 warheads per missile (as of SORT), so 1,680 warheads on the boomers alone. It had originally been 12 warheads per missile before START I (so 4,032 warheads), *and* we had more boomers at sea during that time.

None of this includes land-based ICBM's, weapons deliverable by air, tactical weapons deliverable by artillery, etc.

Well, The world survived the after effects of my last meal at Taco Bell, so a few nukes should present no problem.

To be honest I'd rather know that I'm going to die from a nuclear warhead instead of some of the other far worse alternatives. At least with a nuclear explosion if you see the flash you know that in about 3 seconds you're going to be a pile of ashes or at worse suffer a couple days of radiation sickness. Now the Chemical and Biologicals that are floating out there scare the s*** out of me. You won't see it coming and you can look forward to a very disturbing and agonizing death when you do find out. Stuff like Mustard gas, Anthrax, and the Bubonic plaque are the Fisher Price biologicals compared to most of the nastier strains that are out there, and NO ONE will ever say what they have when it comes to stuff.

If you're lucky enough to live in the direct blast and flash zones. Otherwise you get to have the fun of slowly bleeding out internally while your hair teeth and fingernails fall out.

I certainly would when radioactive zombies and mutants start chasing me through nuclear fallout. I'm pretty sure I won't have access to a MIRV at that time.

You're using "top secret" like it's something special.

I can't remember what dufus on this forum was convinced that the F/A-22 could do well past Mach 2, but don't be like that guy.

That would be me. Listen i stand corrected due to engineering facts that the F22 can't go more then Mach 2.5. But i really don't think I'm a "dufus" for thinking it's possible that we have fighter jets that go Mach 3 or higher when we had freaking commercial airlines going mach 3. C'mon bro don't be a sheep. Because i would rather be "That Guy" then a sheep that just accepts everything he is told.
