Ok, so I just bought a '95 Q45 and one of the quirks of the car is that it currently takes two people to open the hood - one to pull the release and one outside to lift the hood slightly.

I saw in another post that the hood bumpers may be at fault and I am certainly willing to replace them although they appear to be ok. Do the hood support cylinders have anything to do with the initial release/pop of the hood? Both of the shocks are shot and will need to be replaced, but I was not going to make this a priority. However, if it will solve the hood lift issue then I'll probably move it up the list.

Any feedback/opinion is appreciated! Thanks

Oil the hood hinges and release latch and inspect for misalignment in the front latch mechanism.

Definitely lubricate the latch mechanism. I like to clean it first with brake parts cleaner to get the old lubrication and dirt out of there, and then lube it with duralube synthetic spray lube. Lube your hinges at the same time. I don't think the hood struts have any role in the initial popping of the hood.
