Hey guys I am not posting the same old crap, cause I searched NICO long and hard and think this would be good information that should be in the faq eventually.

I just pulled my KA yesterday and getting ready to swap the SR next tuesday. what are all the miscellaneous things you need to have lying around. Zip ties, extra bolts (any common sizes), crimps, what gauge wire for ectending the wiring harness, electrical tape, etc... All the little parts you get at the hardware store or Autozone before you start.

This would be a very useful list that I don't think people really think about b/c they're so concerned with all of the major parts.

Another useful thing to do is remove the shifter before you pull the engine, and install the other one.

Cleaning products: simple green, 3m wax and adhesive remover, engine degreaser, and brake cleaner are always nice to have.

Products for catching fluids: A couple of oil containers, my new SR had a full pan of oil and overflowed my only pan. Something to catch coolant, something to catch transmission fluid, something to catch power steering fluid, something to catch clutch fluid (if you remove these two hoses).

Fluids needed for the car: 4 quarts of oil, a couple bottles of 100% coolant, or about 3 bottles of the 50/50 mix, 4 bottles of transmission fluid (though three should cover it), clutch fluid, a couple bottles of power steering fluid (aka Dexron III Auto transmission fluid).

Also it might be a good idea to get new plugs, an oil filter and fuel filter.

Do note this all should come out to about $150, which nobody usually works into their swap budget.

Yea I got my KA pulled fine. I have oil filter, fuel filter, plugs, etc...

What gauge wire should be used for extending the wire harness for the mafs, igniter, etc... (12g, 16g?) For the wire harness did most of you just wrap it up or use shrink tubing and then zip tie it to whatever was nearby?

What does the SR transmission use GL4 or GL5 gear oil? I assume 75w90 just like the KA, but will GL5 eat away at the gears?

Any of the other little stuff that as you put it "nobody usually works into their swap budget."? I just want to minimize the number of trips to the store during the day and have as much stuff ready when I start to put the SR in.

GL5 is what is recommended for the KA and SR gearbox.

Or you can do what I do and run back and forth to the auto parts store every 15-30min. It's the best way to kill about 2 hours of your day! :ylsuper

What about some Red Line Shockproof gear oil for the transmission?~Brendan

i am replacing all the gaskets ( except head gasket). The only thing i would add would be to have extra money in your budget for anything unforseen.

This is one of the most important parts of the swap right here.

You MUST do that gasket, or spend 6 hours of your life doing it afterwards.

Yeah, a head gasket is such an easy task. :rolleyes

And if you are going through that much work, you are a tard to not just upgrade to a metal headgasket.

The turbo to manifold gasket is the same as a 300zx z31 or z32? There is a nissan dealership about 100 yards from where I'm swapping and an Advance about 2 miles away, so not a big deal to run for parts, just trying to be prepared.

And the SR transmission definitely uses GL5?
