Just left one of the metal washers out to make sure it pressed hard into the insulator...it fit real nice so probably could have done without that, but this time not taking any chances...

The insulator fits correct and that in my mind is the difference....gobbing a bunch of silicone around the insulator makes no sense when you get the correct washers that fit correctly on the injector....the insualtor is smaller in dia but that would not make any difference as the rail is bolted down anyway...so nothing will move......

So you used the 94 style gasket in the 90 runners, and when installed they are held in place by the rails?

Thats correct........even though they are smaller in dia........ and donmt fit the recccesed area in the runner, where are they going to go........they cant move as the rail cant move so that means the gasket or insulator does not move.

For me its piece of mind that I now have a nice tight fit as intended

Interesting! I had the new gaskets on hand and sent them back, never considering that option.

For the fun of it I checked mine with brake parts cleaner at idle yesterday, and didn't find any signs of leaking... Maybe using new spacer/gaskets made the difference? Or maybe the new 94+ style rails that I bought were somehow different than the set you used in terms of the way the bottom was designed?

Either way I'm glad you got yours running well!

I used both the phase I and II gaskets. I bored out the hole in the old phase ones and rtv' d in the new phase twos. I also applied some thick silicone type grease/sealant that some of the Porsche guys use to seal vacuum leaks. My main concern is that the injector tip on the phase II's is almost flush with the bottom of the gasket whereas on the phase I's it extends into the intake another 3/8 " or so. Might help with heat soak?

The engine does not really care about injector [placement that much......I have had race cars where I put them above the throttle blade trying to get even more atomization........

I think the main thing is you did you some rtv etc...the seal is crucial of course and the maing thing there are no vac leaks...

for me having that injector fit tighter than the 90 style inulators offered was the key...

I dont think taking up the extra space on the manifold does a thing...the insulators are not going to move once the rails are bolted down......looks like the three of us are the only ones that have done this?

I believe there are a few more. I know TexasOil did this with one of his. He used the 90-93 gasket/spacers, and used washers in place of the spacers to pull the rails down tighter.

That was wes's idea too......guess we did not take out enough spacer...

Maybe it worked before but the injector trys to lift underpressure

You dont bolt down a fuel rail and watch what happens!

Why do it when you get 8 insulators that fit cheap?

How are those BWD's holding up Heath?

Just noticed that the clear coat on my 1990 is starting to go. I had to leave it outside for a couple of years while working on the engine.

I been the proud owner of this Q past few months. Love the pebble sand and burgundy combination. The car has 58K miles (probably less because of speedometer issue) and the car still runs great.

Using this forum I was able to fix the Climate Control display issue.

Next on my list:
- Replacing the windshield wiper motor. Currently, the fuse keeps blowing. I have ordered a replacement motor and that works. Now just got to find someone with tiny hands to remove the nut behind the cowl. Any tips would be appreciated.

- Fixing the speedometer. Currently the speedometer is approximately 25% faster than actual speed. Not sure what is causing this - it would great if anyone has any input.

Thanks for your help in advance.

I replaced the burgundy interior on my (former) 90Q and have lots of clean interior parts if any of yours need replacement- Center arm rest cover, head rests, full set of door arm rests, all 4 door panels, passenger side seat bottom. Send me a PM if you need any of these.
