Hey 240 forum.Recently I have bought myself a fairly rusty 1990 red 240 fastback with 104k miles on it. I know that most of you will say "wtf, why not look for a normal 240, so that it DOESN'T fall apart in 2 years?" Well it was my first car buy, and the rust was hard to notice, and for $1900 it's not such a bad deal. I will not spend any money on upgrading any performance parts on the car, just the fluid changes, and however often I need to change my pads and tires etc. I have to learn how to drive well before I can think about making the car faster (and it's stupid to upgrade a car I will be selling in a year or two anyway). The car runs well and I only need to change the radiator and transmission/diffderential fluids on it (already changed the oil twice). So far the only things wrong with it is the non-working left high beam (replaced both casing and bulb, it's definitely the electronics), and the left sway bar link is lose, so the car makes a "clunk" noise when I make a tighter right turn every now and then. I have to get under it and see if I need a new bushing or if I can just pop it back in myself and re-tighten it. The rust, well it lets me know it's there from time to time. When I bought the car the right exhaust tip was missing so I had only the left and a gaping hole on the muffler. A month later the left one kinda hung by a thread when I looked at it at a friend's house, and after touching it fell off as well. Symmetry was restored. 5 days ago I was driving around in NYC, when I heard the following "GDONK!...BRAAAAAAA.....GRRRRRRRTTTT...BRAAAAAA.....GRRRRRTTTT....BRAAAAAAGRRRTTTT."My muffler fell off and was dragging behind the car for about two miles (Close to Queens, on the Van Wyck). After parking and pulling it off one of the rubber hook it was dangling on, I realized I now had a "high performance exhaust" for free. Or at least the noise is similar. I revved it in neutral just to see how loud it is and the exhaust made some pops as it was coming down from about 5500RPM. It set off the alarm of the car across the street. Loud enough for me. When I'll sell the car I'll get a new stock exhaust but for now I'll be driving around with this one. If ur in the CT Hartford or NY Rochester area and see a red obnoxious '90 240 fastback, that's me. Honk 3 times or something. :) I'll keep u guys updated if anything else falls off.

don't feel too bad about the rust. a lot of people in the northeast suffer from rust due to the more harsh winters.

You didn't say, is this a manual transmission or automatic?

As for the exhaust, take into consideration that you are now above the legal decibel limit. I'm not sure how it is in your area, but out here in California cops just love writting tickets for loud exhausts.

We both might be in the running for the raggest 240's. I have a 89 Fastback that I got for $1500. No rust, not a dent on it when i got it. Well 1 Chevy Blazer and 1 deer later its looking bad. Its red with a gold hood and fender. Shes a bit rough but I love her. Hmmm that could explain both my car and girlfriend. Better than my old Honda CRX. (Anyone wana see what happens when you mix a John Deere 410B Backhoe, 86 Honda CRX and a 17 year old? Lets just say bye bye Honduh.):rockon

Hey,Youve trashed a CRX too? I've had 2 87s.First one was when I turned 16 and it was an HF with a ZC conversion.16 yr old, rain, and very light car=hydroplaning into a ditch at 60mph.The 2nd one I got when I was 17 and it was an 87 SI.I had some bolt ons but after putting it in a ditch (didnt total it this time) and blowing up the motor I figured it was time for something different.:)
