Today I started gutting my car to make it quieter. Starting in the back:

After 1 gallon of Spectrum and 2 sheets of damplifier:

This week the front seats will come out and I'll do the entire front. Before the carpet goes back in I'll put down sheets of Luxury Liner Pro.

How does that compare to RAAM mat?

Raamat is similar. It has asphalt mixed in with the butyl. A few years back there was a comparison that ranked Second Skin as being a little better. Here's the article:

I used Second Skin in 2005 on a Dodge Ram and it worked out really well. They often have large sales, so I just hung out until I could get a bargain price. Since they're based out of AZ it might be a good option for you to go with.

This coming Saturday I'll have have pictures of the interior fully removed. I'm hoping to get rid of a lot of the road noise. I have more deadener now than I did for my truck, so I hope to get better results.

I read that same article.

At the time, I got the RAAM mat for half the price of the SS, though.

I'll keep an eye out on the SS - Every car I own gets this done.

So today I did some more work. I stripped out the head of one of the torx head bolts holding the seat down, so that set me back about 2 hours.

The original plan was to remove all of the carpet, but that will require too much disassembly. So I opted to leave the console and fold up the carpet. I was surprised at what I found under the carpet.....

Large pieces of Styrofoam. Two pieces in plastic bags that even the floor out.

Lifting up the Styrofoam you can see the factory deadener. The floor isn't even, which make the job a bigger PITA.

Here it is with 4.5 sheets of Damplifier (9 sq.ft.) I would use liquid deadener for this if I had it to do over. I could only use 2 full pieces of Damplifier and the other sheets I had to cut into chunks to make it fit.

I'll take other pictures tomorrow as I do the drivers side and get all the Luxury Liner Pro set into place.
