I decided to go ahead and build it since a rocker arm was loose in the head(pic inclosed). Im Gonna go ahead and build it with weisco pistons, ARP headstuds, rod bolts, and main bolts. HKS valvetrain and cams and Greddy intake manifold. Then later on when I recover my funds, I will beef the turbo and fuel. For now i will build the beast and hope for the best.

I used wiseco pistons in mine, make sure you get the dished (low compression) ones. They are nice. Are you using stock rods? they are pretty nice ones, shot peened from the factory.By the way you dont need headstuds unless you are running 30+ psi of boost, thats coming from a Nissan engineer, not just a dude on the street. good luck, shes a thrill to rebuild!

i have only heard of people getting into the internals of these engines, how well are they really designed? i have only taken off the head of a KA.

THe internal design is great. They have a very beefy main girdle brace that ties all the mains together. They use 2-bolt mains and have the piston squirters (as you probably know). I do believe they also have a forged (not cast) crank. They are stout motors.

that is what i allways read, so what is the max people have taken the bottom end, is it in any regards in ratio, comparable to the rb series. as in they are extremelly strong, i know you will get lower hp numbers because of the cylinders and displacement and such, so i guess what is the max on the bottom end

The stock rods are good for boost into the low 20's and high 300hp range. Thats what Mike Kojima (nissan engineer and SR20 guru) told me.But i have seen a stock bottom end dyno at 478, granted that was a one time deal and really pushing the limits.

I thought Secret Services got something like 539 horse with the stock bottom end...

Nonetheless, extremely durable motors.

Well i finally got back from vacation and started tearing into it. And the bottom end looks really good so far. Bearings all look fine (Im gonna replace anyway to be safe) No signs of any prior spun bearings, No shavings or chunks in the oil pan. Everything looks really clean. I guess they just took it a little too far once or twice and threw that rocker arm off track

And yes..Secret services did get 530'sh on a stock bottom end. They are who ive been talking to about my build, And he recomended i go with 9:1 pistons. Also, he told me i could safely acheive under 600HP on stock sleeves with only upgrading pistons. Thats awesome, way more HP that on Honda motors. So i think i just moved my goal up to the 550hp mark
