So I’ve been doing some research on SR20DET’s and it turns out that they aren’t so great after all. As it turns out the SR20DET only weighs 3lbs less than the KA24DE according to Sport Compact Car Magazine. Considering that KA24 weighs in at a whopping 388lbs w/o trans (aprox.), the SR is no light motor! When you compare these numbers to one of Nissans newer motors, the facts can be even more astonishing.

SR20DET-205hp-385lbs aprox. (240sx), VQ35DE-300hp-320lbs aprox. (350z) I would give up 65lbs for two more cylinders and 95 more horsepower any day, wouldn’t you?

The KA24 is still a truck motor right! Well in Japan, the SR20DET is actually used in minivans, yes minivans, the Nissan Serena and the Nissan Liberty to name a few.

I'm not surprise that the VQ is lighter. Afterall, it's got 20 years of technology over the SR. It doesn't bother me though, the SR still gets the job done.

so in japan they also put the H22a vtec motors in station wagons. The SR20det is a great motor and far superior to the 2.4 liter boat anchor we got in our 240s here in the states.

OH NOOEEESSS SOMEONE SOUND THE ALARM!!!!111 HE JUST DISCOVERED OUR EVIL SECRETZZ!!!!

Dude, are you retarded? This has to be one of the most pointless threads to ever be in the SR section. Lets see, the SR was developed in 1989, the VQ35 started use in 2000. I would hope that after 11 years they would develop a lighter engine capable of more horsepower.

Cliche of a topic.......

Regardless....he's got the right to post it. He obviously has done some research to come to that conclusion. Whether he is correct or not....GOOD JOB! At least he isn't taking someone elses opinion for gospel like a lot of people do.

BTW.....I love my SR....they are built to take bullets.
