the shift interlock mechanism is jammed

-90 nissan240sxit is an automatic man and when i try to shift out of park, the mechanism wont release to corect position. I think the brake release is mainly the problem but i dont know how to fix it. If anyone has any suggestions about fixing this problem write back or email me at: [email protected]. I am unable to get the key out too because of this release problem: so try to drop me a line before my car gets stolen, Jay

remove your console shifter bezel find where the cable feeds to it on the left side of the shifter push that toward the front of the car. this should release your key so you can get it out. the problem is the shifter control unit. it is not sending proper comands to the solonoids on your shifter. the above procedure is just so you can get your key out till you get the control unit in.
