The brake torquing really helped the launch...

but I did notice that somehting felt amiss on Fred's Q... IT has a little "stumble" when it gets going... Everyone agreed that it really have me a better launch...

If the motor won't turn over and you had a loud metallic knock it's HIGHLY possible that you lost pressure on the timing chain tensioner and it skipped a few teeth.

This would explain the poor running right before the noise (chain retarded cam timing), along with the engine seizing and not being able to turn over (rods even in broken state will still turn).

If so thats the same way, and about the same milage that my KA24DE met it's fate.

Absolutely!! Preheated ATF does not help your shift times!

Intial surge off the brake might fool the butt dynamometer, but it doesn't fool the clock after the first shift.

Wes...man that really sucks, but if you got to go, then you certainly went out with a bang. It would have sucked to tell your friends that you blew the engine while just sitting at a stop light or granny driving it.

Got to say...you car looked impressive against Fred's Q in the first run....

Best wishes on your next car and of course I hope it is a Q.....

i agree with fred, wes, how about a 94-96 g20,5 speed, mod the crap out of the sr20,enhance the suspension, and enjoy one fine cheaper & easier to maintain vehicle while in college.ps i had a 94 g20,bought new, drove it over 150,000 miles before selling it- very reliable and fun car if you avoid the auto transmission model.

Can I take a second to point out Wes (a teenager) is taking this horrible situation with a rather mild and level-headed demeanor. And that's NOT because he's gonna get another Q "handed" to him. I think that's a good sign that he'll do what's right and the downfall oif his Q isn't solely of his doing.

I'd also like to point out Fred's (& Joel's) willingness to help and once the dire situation was understood, Fred's help in getting his fellow NICO-friend back home safely.

Dam Wes, I'm really sorry to hear this. Been reading the other thread the other day, and now I know what it was . Guess you're glad you didn't end up buying my wheels though! Whatever you do, good luck with your choice. I would suggest that you at least take it to your mechanic and let him tell you what's really wrong, I know you're good with it yourself, but you never know, you may get lucky. Maybe??

Falk, thats a good point..... But we had 3 people there that came to the same conclusion (fred can re-affirm this)..... They do this kind of stuff all the time, and this is what they all came up with..... Id say theres about a .00001% chance that there is something goofy with it.....

But like you said, Im glad i didnt spend money on the seats or ANYTHING this year (last bill was about $150 on transmission cooler and stuff)...

ive also considered calling up the old owner (I know where he lives ), and say..... Becuase you dont know how to change the oil you cost a 18 year old 8000 and a 55k car that died about 150,000 miles prematurely.....

ok first of all I am very sorry this has happened to you Wes, your enthusiasm for your Q has been a great inspiration. I am sure others would be very sorry to see you disappear from NICO because of this and hence I have a suggestion for members to consider. The idea is:

"Project - Rescue Wes's Q"

Specifically would it be feasible for NICO members to soehow get Wes's Q down to T3 and for various members to support the rebuild of his engine in different ways. For example parts donations from members or hopefully Scottsdale, labor possibly from T3 and co, cash support from members who would be willing to help, transport help to get the Q to Atlanta.

I feel we should do this because of all of Wes's hard work and contribution to this forum. I am not in a position to coordinate this as but if anyone else is I will make the first donation. Email me off line at [email protected]

I certainly wouldnt expect anything like that..... But that would be golden if it did... Ive gotten all I want from NICO in regards to the situation at hand, by Fred and Joel being there with AAA, and sitting there with me and Fred taking me home..... Despite the situation, Im very happy with the final outcome, and its finality still has yet to be seen.....

Sorry about the Q.

I feel terrible for you. By the way, I just got the plugs today, and thanks.

I blew a power steering hose, on the way home, this afternoon. Not nearly the same.

I have blown a few engines in my time, and that is how they go. I blew one, in a drag race, and it was the most fun, if you could call blowing an engine fun.

Keep your eyes peeled, for another Q. Maybe even the same color, although Green seems to be the most popular.

I found a gem, in the Q45t. 97,000 miles for $4,500.00

I know you can find a similar deal.

If you ahve room, to let the car sit. I say keep it, in one piece. Start looking for an engine, but keep your options open.

Rixkix has a 1994, with a wrecked front-end, the only problem is that he is in California.

I'll let you know if I see somehing in my area. My car is at a shop that does a lot of Infiniti service. I have seen a few engines laying around, and will ask, tomorrow, when I go back, if Jim knows of a good engine around for cheep.

Layla (silver Q) has 207,000 miles on her, and she has lots of miles left in her. I wouldn't drag race her 3 times in a row, like that, but might do a 80 to 140 run once in a while.

practicality of thinking.. I know what you're experiencing... I had a 1990 maxima that had everything under the sun done to it from transmission cooler to remote start to synthetic fluid change to full on warpspeed exhaust, to brembo brakes..

Car drove like a dream... my wife inherits it around 105k..around 118k someone t-bones her.. Looking at the car, nobody would believe she survived..*pic attached* Of course, I was gung-ho.. Gotta fix her, gotta part her..gotta do this gotta do that.. In the end, the car has been sitting for over a year and as of now, I'm starting to donate parts to my maxima mailing list contacts...Luckily, I have access to an 8-bay 3 acre lot garage where she has been resting in the yard...

You know your limits.. you're young, you cannot afford the parts/engine..your parents are practical in not wanting to invest in a 130k mile car... Look at it as a chance to move on..whatever you do..do something within the next month or so, if not, you will have a driveway gnome.. I know from parting out my car, everyone wants every part under the sun until it comes time to pay... There are more cars to come in your lifetime...enjoy it..

"Closing time. Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end."

I just cant imagine the type of abuse the crimson Q went through for 9 years. Its truly mind-boggling. I wrote the last owner of my Q a letter of praise (I'm owner #4).

Sigh. That really sucks. Old cars are expensive, tiresome, and I'm not sure the end result is worth the time and effort put into them. I don't think you should put more time and money into something that isn't absolutely perfect.

DammitMan!

Sorry to hear about the situation, Wes.

My .02?

Ya know what happened right?

The spun bearing is akin to a woman mad enough to spit smelling the lust on you from another.

Ahem, the RWD SR20DET kinda lust.

A car someone your age *should* have.

The Q is that older woman who taught you what you needed to know, now that you're not wet behind the ears anymore, you know as well as she does the time has come to move on.

Wes, I shed a tear for you young man.. Good thing I didn't buy your car for my mother!! Sorry to hear the bad news, but at least your where with friends eventhough you were in another state.... Typical how things go really wrong when away from home..

Part her out and put everything towards a new ride. I'll help by buying your transmission cooler(I want a new one), rack N pinion(mine has been leaking), power antenna(damn kids) and recently purchased under plenum hoses(gotta scavenge where I can)....... got to start the vultures flying.

I suggested he go RB powered S13, he is a teenager after all, but he's all about the Q and the ride.

Indeed. Youg guys should have cars that reflect their age. I always eat it for driving a Q. When I was 18 and I had to service my 91, the dealer gave me a 2k1 or so newer G20. All the girlys thought it was a hot ride, and way better then my Q.

Now if only FDs didn't detonate all the time, that would be my ride of choice

Yeah, until the previously unattainable Prom Queen in the passenger seat lets out a little sigh every time a judicious amount of throttle produces a DC9-on-takeoff sound from twin ball bearing T28's, followed by a psssshhhhtttt! from twin BOV's as she waves buh-bye to her Ex, the Class Pres, QB, whatever, in his 03 Cobra, 02 SS, etc.

Ahem, AHEM!

RB26DETT on a stand For Sale!! Meticulously removed from a 95 R33 (edit, duh) every last wire & harness clip in perfect condition.

Wes....while it may suck to see your car go. It is sometimes fun or a real pain in the a$$ learning how another car handles when pushed to its limits. All the cars drive so differently no matter how close they look in similarity.

I had a real tough time adjusting to FWD and never got the hang of it while autocrossing my FWD Accord as I always had terrible understeer coming into the corners....I can still remember just sliding straight forever so many times with the wheel cranked and brakes (lightly) to turn the car but the car just keeps going straight.

Dude all you have to do is think back to the many memories you had of your Q. Atleast you enjoyed it and got some drive out of it.

I do however agree about focusing in school. I work in a college and you wouldn't believe the things I see sometimes.

It is better to focus on school now then you will be posting about your "new" Q four years from now.

I agree with everyone else as far as the Q going out in a blaze of glory. Atleast it didnt happen while on the highway doing 80 with family in there. Things happen for a reason.
