Anyone have a full S15 engine trans and rear diff installed in their 240? Not talking about the body conversion, just drivetrain right now. How does it drive? Was it a major biatch to install compared to any other 240 swaps? I really like the features of the S15 and the newness of it.

I'm just wondering how many people actually have this swap, pls represent your S15 and let me know how you like it. And about how long did it take you to swap it w/o really expensive shop tools.

Thanks

S15 trannies suck...the 6 speed trannies are alot weaker than the S14/S13 trannies...actually the S14 was the best out of the 3 motors

yeah..they're really weak:rolleyes how many have you broken dj?...ok how many have you SEEN broken? i have the whole shebang swapped into my S14...i love it. it's no harder mechanically than any other swap.the wiring is a little tricky, but can be done with both FSM's and a little patience.don't beleive everything you read concerning the S15 transmission.there haven't really been enough installed over here for people to really know much about them. just looking at them you can tell the gears are smaller.so they MAY be weaker.but if you're going to be able to push the power to break one.you'll probably be financially prepared to prep the transmission for the extra power.you can get the whole gearset cryotreated for about 300$(if you're worried about it,i'm not)

That's so true...that's one rumor I can't stand and knowing that it originated in a Super Street article 3-4yrs ago makes me sad.

Yeah, I love how this rumor probably progressed from "Someone with an S15 trans broke it, and put an S13/S14 trans in" to "The 6spd trans is weak and is isn't worth having because it will break, so you should get an s13/S14 trans"

I dont believe the rumor either, put some good redline shockproof in there and if you are capable of driving a manual transmission you wont break it. Just dont do stupid stuff to it or expect to break SR20 hp records with it. But for 300-400hp it should be just fine.

The S15 has the best variable timing of the 3, 440someodd injectors, the T28bb, and a helical LSD. Want Helical? Call Quaife and give them 1500 bucks. Helical LSD owns you!

S15 injectors are 480cc sidefeeds, you're probably thinking of the GTi-R 440/444cc topfeeds.overall i've had a pretty good experience with the S15 motor.seems to be perfect for people looking to get around 300WHP.you can get there with boltons, boost and tuning.it is expensive though, price is coming down ,but it's a tough call between that and the rb25.

The S15 6-speed trans uses thinner gears in it, this was because nissan wanted a 6speed but didnt want to enlarge the casing of the trans, so they shrank the gears to fit another one in. They realized that this may become a weak point so they made a special flywheel. The flywheel is a 2-piece unit. The friction surface where the clutch grabs is not directly attached to the center (which is bolted to the crankshaft). THere is a spring damper in there that serves to absorb impact loading, like the springs in a clutch disc. Nissan determined that this extra precaution would alleviate any worries of broken transmissions due to high impact loading. Editorial: I would personally run an S15 transmission (with the S15 flywheel) without worrying about it. Nissan used it on their hottest version of the SR motor, so it is good enough for my 295Hp S13.I have not yet seen anyone running the complete drivetrain, including the diff, there really is no good compelling reason to do it, especially when you already have a limited slip.

I'l give you 3 reasons to use the S15 diff

#1 speed sensor is there#2 its a Helical LSD#3 Helical owns VLSD, and to get one from Quaife is 1500 bucks

and most 240sx's have open diffs, at least all the ones i know around here are open
