Please don't post unless you actually know something about this topic.

So what is the deal. I have searched 100 ways and read all the posts with the words LSD or S15 in them. There is so much misinformation and random speculation that real knowledge is nearly impossible to pick out. It is as if S15 HLSD users hold the ultamate grip solution and are unwilling to share the wealth. When some one actually posts that they have succesfully installed the S15 LSD adn people ask Q's the ones with the know how don't ever reply. I see the same guy (japandy) sell these diffs and i never see them up for sale again, people are useing them but no one seems to know how. Some say you need the VSLD outputs, some say the S15 ones. I read that it uses 6-bolt flanges not the 5-bolt and vice versa.

I bought one to figure it out myself and I will by all means share any info and pics of how to do it when I figure it out SO DON'T POST ABOUT THAT please. In the mean time though it would be awesome if members could contribute anything they know so I can make a good install guide.

Things like where to get Japanese parts such as the s15 output shafts (Right Flange 38220-29U00 Left Flange 38220-29U01) or anything else.

I hope I can figure this out and make the information availiable to other 240 owners..

thanks :)

Why don't you just get a Qulife LSD? They do the same thing.

Although this may be taken as misinformation, the guy(s) that had done the install all used the s15 flanges, and If I remember correctly, one of them said, the vlsd's flanges won't work, but the pumpkin from it is needed. (if you think this brakes the rules you have stipulated, I'll delete upon request).

i'd email japanandy, he seems like a good guy. Or since you have to get the pumpkin for the casing and most likely you have to get the whole vlsd, you could try those flanges. Or you could just ask around the forums from one off a 300zx that ppl don't use and have to replace, try that, and although the bolt pattern is different, the gear part is the same, and that will tell you if the j30 or hicas shafts will work.

You can use an open diff case, and 6 halfshafts as well. You already know that you need the s15 output shafts.

I installed mine 3 weeks ago I will be more than happy to help out.

I used the S13 VLSD from Japandy and it went pretty well, but the thing I found with that swap was that the output shaft was in a weird position on the passenger side.

The hlsd is a r200 diff just like all s chassis diffs. You will need the s15hlsd ouput shafts. I know Jspec can get them, but they'll cost $200 a piece.

It works just like a quaife. When you lift a wheel, it works just like an open diff.(quaifes do the same thing)

Wow, that is a ton for outputs, unless you can get a good importer to send them with it. Or are they specialty? I like the idea of an HLSD, but the VLSD is so cheap. You can do it all with what amounts to basically stock parts. And everyone complains about them wearing out, but luckily, it isn't built like a normal clutch pack, so you just have to replace the viscous coupler (not that it's EXACTLY that easy). But still, easy enough to save 4 hundred or better. Now let's just hope I got it close ENOUGH when building it. Otherwise, I am in the market for a ring and pinion (and bearings, seals, maybe some internal gears, etc.)Psych, I will just get a phantom grip.
