After the exciting Indy race I attended in Baltimore last month I cant wait to check out the pros of all pros, for 10 years too! It'll be brought to good ol' NJ, but I guess I cant complain. Its a good excuse to get some White Castle out of it as well.

I'll be going to this. With a suggested June date, this race will probably be held a week before or a week after the Canadian Grand Prix. Which is great, that way I can just do one big road trip to both races.

Looking at the track map ( http://www.f1fanatic.co.uk/2011/10/25/j ... ace-plans/ ) the track has a very similar layout to the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal. All though I don't expect the NJ track to be as fast.

This probably means that for 2013 one of the current tracks will have to be dropped. Personally I'd like to see Valencia go as that is one of the most processional races on the calendar. However, given the dismal audience turnout in Korea, if any race gets dropped it will probably be that one. Bernie Ecclestone has always wanted a Grand Prix in the NYC area, not too long ago there were rumors of a Staten Island race in the works. Looks like he'll finally get his wish.

I think it;s very interesting. Gov Christie has been crying that NJ is broke, even cancelled a major rail tunnel to NYC project due to lack of funds. That storyline was also usedto get union concessions, (which made him a GOP darling) and to dump a lot of state costs to the local levels to balance his budget. Now he's backing the brink's truck to Bernie's door for a weeks worth of revenue? Hmmmm. I'm an F1 fan so I will very likely be there if it happens. Thankfully, I'm not a NJ resident who'll probably have new taxes added to to pay for the infrastructure devlopment, 'cause It ain't coming out of Bernie's pocket.

Thats quite close to the Lincoln Tunnel. The roads in that area (as well as the majority of the rest of NJ) are known crap. What goes into preparation for an event like this? Will they actually resurface roads?

It would be sweet if they had run it through the tunnel, a few twists and turns through Manhattan, and back through the tunnel to NJ. But Im a gamer at heart...

^ that would be pretty cool, I dont think the streets of NY could afford to close though. I dont know NJ too well. Been there a few times to Ocean City, Cape May, and the jewish infested Atlantic City once. That might be true about what Bubba said about taxes.. sucks..

Yeah I would hope that additional taxes would be based on municipalities or county at least. As much as I would like to see this, I dont want to pay for it.

Judging by video in the link, much of it will be existing roads that will have to be resurfaced, though it appears some of it will be new roadway. JFK Blvd is pretty wide to begin with but I'm sure it'll need some rehabbing whose tab will be picked up by NJ Taxpayers. Weehauken and Union City certainly dont have the money to spend on it. I have a close friend with a lumberyard in Weehauken, I'll have to see how close to the course its located. Could be awesome seats. :dblthumb:

What goes into preparation for a 1st time street event like that? It's massive. Besides resurfacing, widening parts and laying new parts of new track, with drainage, building safety barriers, set up pits, paddocks, garages for the teams, think about parking lots and grandstands for about 250,000+ people, probably relocate some curbing and telephone poles, figure out traffic control for both event and non event traffic, making deals/security with a few thousand residents and businesses that will be directly affected. Then there's setting up concessions, bathrooms, adequate security, given it's one sitting in of the more densely populated areas in the country. It can certainly get done, but it's a big financial risk for NJ. Pretty exciting

Tax payers money going to a good cause :)

^ yeah I didnt think it was. I assume its a little.. cleaner. But seeing that its right on the water, I wonder how dirty the river will look. You'll need a calculator to count the amount of 3 headed fish.

Yay! Previous threads were discussing rumors, since then Governor Chris Christie has made an official press conference.

So unless budgeting issues or freak occurrences occur there will be racing taking place in Weehawken NJ/West NY.

Unless it's a fairly rainy season in the north east, then I'll be watching this on TV. Valencia, Monaco, the former USGP's in Phoenix, all street circuits are pretty boring. I will go watch Austin and Canada live, but NJ will be spectated from my living room.

The flip side of this coin is that hopefully this will bolster interest in F1 in the states. I only know one other person in the USA personally that can name every driver on the grid, it's pretty sad.

yeah but why not just go for the hell of it. Its only a few hour drive for greatness, then go to Atlantic City after. I could name every driver back in like '06, but Ill admit, last time I watched it I said "Schumacher's back?"

Not afforded the luxury of time. This year I did 10 national level autocrosses all across the country, next year will be about the same if not more. My weekends are usually very busy.

I remember the rumor thread but I missed this one. Failed indeed.

Some have mentioned tax ramifications of the event. Did you guys read this some where because from what I have heard the costs will come locally from the city and it's residence; so it shouldn't cost NJ or it's citizens as whole. West NY is full of loaded people who work in NY so I figured, "yeah this could be true".

haha its all good. About taxes, I kind of just went with the bandwagon and assumed that.

Flohting point, I see. I wish I actually raced as much as you did. I wish I had the money to try skip barber racing school or something.

Barber is expensive but worth the money, (that was what got me started) but you could do an HPDE and get a much less expensive track experience with plenty of adrenaline therapy.

It seems a shame to be that big an F1 fan and not go to experience it live just a couple hours drive from your home.

If this were my first rodeo I'd very much agree, but I've probably seen 30 or so GP's live. When I was a kid I went to the USGP each year it was hosted in Phoenix. When it got moved to Indy I saw it there also. Canada GP? Several times. Japanese GP? Same as I went each year while stationed there. When living in Germany I went and saw Spa, Magny Cours, Spanish GP, EU, Hockenheim, Imola, Monza, Hungary, Silverstone and Monaco each year. Passing on NJ will be ok =)

It's going to vary track to track, you'll have to wait until prices are released. Prices are also going to vary depending on which section of the track you sit in.

You dont need Skip Barber to do what I do, it wouldn't even help as it's a totally different skillset. You live right up the road from me, there are a TON of events in the DC area that you dont have to migrate for like what I do. There are so many clubs in the DC area you could autocross almost every weekend here.

Understood. I;ve never been to an F1 race so I'll probably venture up. Weehauken is a an hour + change from my home (non rush hour).
