Here's a part that never gets any respect from the auto manuals. I cannot find any reference to it by name nor much in the way of explaining what it does.

It gets unceremoniously replaced by a short pipe with two tubes on an aftermarket intake -- which begs the question: "Why does this part have such an odd shape to it?" and "Is there a filter inside of it?

I'm assuming that it uses the vacuum created by the intake to draw off blow-by gasses, like a PCV valve, and route them back into the intake -- but if I'm wrong, you can blame it on the lack of info available.

So...please tell me, WTF is this thing?

Sorry, but I sold them and forgot to pull the listing on my sig.

To be honest with you, they were fairly heavy, and that's why I didn't put them on my 98 I30. Check out the rims made by Special Edition on TireRack.com I bought a set and they are great.

I know about that function, but I still need to know what goes in and out of the rubber tubing attached to it. There is a smell of raw gas that emanates from this part.

Does it have an EGR function as well

Nope that's a line from the charcoal canister, there is a solenoid on the canister itself that controls it.
