the reason Scratch Shield was discontinued

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I'm having to get a ding repainted...

PPG Ceramiclear (what Scratch Shield really is) costs $400 a gallon

Most regular clears cost $100-150 a gallon.

The painter said that for one thing, it can't be thinned. The other is that the scratch shield chemical needs a certain drying process to cure properly.

What a headache!

I must say that my 08's paint looks fantastic. Very interesting and advanced stuff!

Has, in fact, ScratchShield been discontinued? The paint on my '11 Ex is not that sharp in appearance, and I was told it was due to the ScratchShield.....

I was told it was discontinued for the above stated reason when I purchased my EX, however I have noticed light scratches in the clearcoat still seem to heal themselves so I have to wonder if it was true or misinformation.

Hooray for insurance? Hopefully

There were so many people that complained about that when it was new, combine that with the price and it is no wonder they nixed that idea.

When it was new it did actually work, but at the time they were unsure for how long. I remember watching the regional rep demo that on a new car. Pretty neat...but not for $400/qt.

Every Press-release I ever read, said that it was being discontinued.
