I just bought an '08 Infiniti G37-S Manual Trans. Coupe. Love it!!! Such a stunner!
I've got plans for mine though (evil laugh and forboding music here) Mwaa HaHaaHa !! Bum Baa Baaaaa....
I thought that, aside from the more detailed and specific threads i've posted about particular concerns and questions I have about my car, I would put up a thread just letting everyone get a good idea of where this project is going, and what the end result is going to be.
Feel free to share your opinions here about what you think, concerns about compatibility, questions, or just generally if you think it will look good, bad, or if you think I'm crazy or have bad taste and am making a rolling abomination or am building a holy grail car
On the agenda is...
- new unbranded polished billet aluminum wire mesh front grill
- genuine burl walnut wood interior trim with gold wire inlay pinstriping
- burl walnut shift knob and wood steering wheel (not sure if I should go with a Nardi or a more modern wheel)
- thin chrome headlight and taillight bezels
- dark beige/natural sheepskin pelt and floor mats with gold thread embroidery and leather trim
And the coup de grace (or should I say coupe de grace :chuckle: )
- 20" Dayton brand 'knockoff style' chrome wire spoke rims with gold plated nipples
And finally, once all that is done...
- reupholstered seats and interior leather in saddle/brown colored quilt stitched leather
- brand new paint in pearlescent metallic green

All said and done, this will be an ongoing project over the next 12 to 16 months with an estimated cost of around $10,000 to $15,000.
Unfortunately, that $10k to $15k investment will only yield about a $5000 return, in increase to the car's total value (if that), if/when I sell the car in the future... but it's a labor of love :)
And then it will be MY car ;)

NOTE: No pics yet as nothing is changed yet from the factory setup. The billet grill arrived but needs some modification before it will fit. As soon as I can fabricate some mounting brackets I'll post the first set of pictures.

Hmmm...personal tastes being what they are I'm not sure how all that will work on a G. Dayton's?

I'm old tho.

Ok, I realize anybody can just write a thread about what they would like to do to their car... Not very interesting, right?
So, as more of this project is completed, I'll be updating with posts detailing what was done, how it was done, and pictures (because everyone likes pictures).

This past weekend I installed the billet aluminum wire mesh grill in place of the plastic factory grill. It's already gotten some 180 degree head turns from pedestrians :)
I ordered the grill through the CarID website from a manufacturer called "APG" for $228.00. The grill was shipped quickly and when I unboxed it, it looked beautiful, but when I took off the factory grill and went to install the APG aftermarket grill, none of the 8 threaded mounting posts lined up with the corrosponding holes in the bumber. None of them. It came with 8 threaded bolts, 8 nuts and 8 washers. So, either custom fabricate some mounting brackets or return the grill... I chose to use my brain (at least enough to call my father, who was an architect for about 40 years) and we brainstormed a solution. After a trip to the hardware store and $30 later, I ended up having to bend 8 strips of galvanized steel into kind of a U shape with 90 degree edges and mounted one end of the U to the grill and the other to the car with a different bolt. It turned into a 6 hour job, but the results were well worth the time spent. I took the extra time to do quality work, and it really shows. It looks like a factory install.
The new wire mesh grill evokes images of antique Jaguars, Austin-Healys, and Bentleys. It really goes a long way to bring out the 'luxury' side of what Infiniti calls 'sport/luxury'.
