hey guys,i had this topic rounding off my head for the last couple of months, and it kinda puts you to think about it,so here we go

with 2014 so close,(just starting this year, but still, its just 11 months away),the 1989 skyline r32 (1990 maybe too,too lazy to do the math),would be eligible for import as per the "25 year old" rule, anybody has thoughts on this, cause i searched to see if there was a topic on this, but i guess either:
1-im a bad searcher or
2-there is not a topic on this
so with all this said, what you think its going to happen,is there going to be a massive r32 importation into the US??? or is the nthsa going to do some sort of block to avoid the r32 to reach stateside??? what do you think???

thoughts, info, opinions are all welcome, mods as well, may move this to an appropriate location if needed, (i thought general chat was bout the best location to discuss about it),or close it if there is a topic already started on this!

let the discussion begin!

R32 skylines have been going back up in price for a couple years now.
I think only the real die-hard skyline fans are going to bother with the extra expense of getting one to the US.
Too many newer domestic products around, with lower mileage, more power, better handling, and a lower price tag than the skyline.

Welcome to NICO!
i know moneypit,i checked that thread before i opened this one, matter of fact that was my mine of information about importing skys in the US  ,but they dont seem to mention this topic, that's why i opened this one

Mod Ozzie, you never know, man, with the amount of ricers in the us worshipping gtrs, there could be a mass influx of gtrs into the country,i think eventually someone is going to come with a "import skyline cheap" plan,or company, and thats gonna be a magnet to everyone

on the other side,i dont think the nhtsa is going to just sit with their arms crossed watching all gtrs getting imported into the shores, theyll probably put up some sort of stop to it!

just my 2 cents

Some states have a stipulation that the car be tagged as historic (or some other incarnation of that) in order to drive a 25 y.o. car from another country around legally for emissions purposes, and in California the car must be from 1976 or earlier to be exempt from emissions.

Here's a snippet that should be useful for ya:
www.nhtsa.gov wrote:Importing a vehicle that is at least 25 years old.

A motor vehicle that is at least 25 years old can be lawfully imported into the U.S. without regard to whether it complies with all applicable FMVSS. Such a vehicle would be entered under Box 1 on the HS-7 Declaration form to be given to Customs at the time of importation. If you wish to see that form, you may download a copy from our website at http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/import. You should note that the 25 year period runs from the date of the vehicle's manufacture. If the date of manufacture is not identified on a label permanently affixed to the vehicle by its original manufacturer, to establish the age of the vehicle, you should have documentation available such as an invoice showing the date the vehicle was first sold or a registration document showing that the vehicle was registered at least 25 years ago. Absent such information, a statement from a recognized vehicle historical society identifying the age of the vehicle could be used.

sooo, according to this,no matter what they try to put up,is still going to be eligible for legally importing them,
i like the skyline,my fave ones are the 32 and 34,but i dont want neither of them ending up the eclipse/civic way.
it would be such a shame for them to become like that,if the 89 become fully import-able,is there like a fail-safe so that they dont end up in the wrong hands (i.e:insurance regulations, being overly expensive, etc)

and thanks,sx moneypit, glad to be here!
