I noticed that in this Q, the ambient temp is exaggerated by 10-15 degrees. I'm wondering if its my fault.

REWIND 2 WEEKS:I was messing with the head unit so I had the dash out, and noticed the temp sensor was filthy. I had a can of carb cleaner in my hand, looked at the sensor, and thought to myself, "Should I? Should I? I shouldn't." and sprayed it anyway. I also bent it slightly by mistake with the red nozzle. Now, the sensor is visually clean, but I wondered if I ruined it?

Its been uncomfortably cold in the car and its only 81 degrees out. Should I adjust the temp readout by ten degrees to compensate?

What the heck were you thinking! You're one of our mentors. You should be setting a better example for us than that. (lol)

Comfort while driving is my #1 priority (Which is why I haven't bought a Lotus Elise). Replace it. You can probably get one in our classifieds for cheap. I bet PopPop has a half a dozen he could ship you tomorrow.

Might as well check it first though. The connector is located behind and below the sensor on the passengers side. You were there when you had your head unit out. Troubleshooting is a resistance check with a VOM compared against the current temperature. There's a chart and instructions on page HA-92 of the FSM.

If you mean the sensor directly next to the defroster button, and you need another, I have an extra one that you're welcome to for the cost of shipping.

I was originally going to use it for a Manual -> Auto A/C swap in the G20 but just haven't had the time.

EDIT: Its carb cleaner free

Argh, I get all the sensors mixed up. My manual is still in Washington, so I'll ring my friend to have him pull up instructions on accessing the climate control diagnostics.

Let's see, there's:Sunload sensor on dashInterior temp sensor by defrost buttonAmbient temp on front bumper

I think there's two more sensors???

I wonder if something is wrong with the ambient temp sensor or if the recent humidity is throwing it off somehow. My last Q was surprisingly accurate (though the AC was broken 80% of the time), so I'll keep driving around and comparing the ambient readout to the local temperature shown on the XM tuner.

Maybe I'm not used to a Q with a 5 year old climate control system -- last owner had -everything- replaced, including hoses, evap, condensor, compressor. My fingers might have to be amputated if they keep freezing like this.

I noticed also while I was in California that it was about 75-80 degrees during the day; it would still get quite cold after a while and I'd have to turn the temperature up a little bit, so maybe spraying that sensor didn't actually hurt anything.

jesda when i get back home later today ill post the diagramsf rom the FSM... I mgiht be able to remember how to do it...

Honestly, i dont think carb cleaner screwed it up..

I know to get into diagnosis mode you turn the key on, and press and hold the OFF button until it goes into segment display... To check the temperature readings, press the warmer button until you see a 5 on the display.. Then you can press the defrost button and cycle through 3 temp. readings.. Theyre for the internal temp, external temp, and evaporator temp.. not in that order I dont think, butlets say your car has been sitting overnight and you havent driven it... They should all be roughly the same temp... I just went out and checked mine adn I got like 62, 67, 64... The highes one was likely the evaporator temp...

For the record, the proper sequence of the sensor readings is:

AmbientIn-VehicleIntake (evap)
