So I recently posted about my valves tapping and everyone said oil pump. So I changed the oil pump and my oil light dosent come on anymore but it still taps. It taps like it always. So can anyone think of what else it could be? I'm totally lost now. Please give me answers

Yea I adjusted the valves maybe 3 months ago thinking that was my problem and nothing. So I put on my new oil pump today and it still taps, I even let it warm up for 5 or 10 minutes to see if it would stop over time and nothing. I'm walkin in the dark now and I know my way around an engine. Ok, could the tapping be caused by bad fuel/air ratio? Say if its running slightly lean, just enough to make it tap? Just a thought/question. My carb isn't in the best of condition.

Nah. It has to be in the vicinity of the valves. Bad rockers or cam lobes may cause this. Valves that are folding would cause loss of power but no noise.

Get a stethoscope, listen wherever you may suspect it could be from. More than likely in the head but it could be something else as well.

so... what are you suggesting here... that you might be getting 'pinging' rather than 'tapping'???

i wouldn't rule it out.... IF that's the problem its more of a timing issue.... but could also be the carb

valve adjustment first, worn rockers, worn cam, worn out springs would be my first tries.

worn out springs will drive you mad...

I'd say if you've adjusted the valves correctly, then it's the springs. They're weak and not allowing the the valve to follow the cam lobe/rocker assembly...

could be and exhaust leak too....

I agree. It could be the springs. Unless of course it pinging instead of tapping as Piez suggested.
