I've had my 240SX for over a year now, and think I've learned just about everything I can about the CA, turbo KA, SR, RB, etc. I am a young college student with a small budget who wants to learn about the insides of his internal combustion motor. My current KA has 150,000 and is in relatively good shape, I estimate I have a year or two left driving 3 hours to college and back 10-20 times a year and summers. So here is the plan. I have several KA motors lying around in the junkyard here in town, for cheap. Keep in mind I live in a dorm room. I plan to slowly take apart an engine, and bring it back here to my dorm room for slow rebuilding. For example, take the head, buy if for $75, and spend a few months taking it apart and getting valves done, machined, etc, and work my way through down to the block as I can. I figure I can do minor upgrades while I grunt my way through the hard stuff within the motor. Now, assuming all goes to plan I can have a built motor ready when my old one conks out. At this point, I can swap my built motor in and run it till I'm ready to go turbo, then put the turbo kit on and be ready to run serious boost for serious power. Is this feasable? Is this a good plan for your average poor-only works in the summer-college student? Give me your opinions, ideas, should I bit the bullet and go SR, etc!!!
