For curiosity's sake, what kind of realistic gains can one see from cams in a VQDE engine? to get more specific, for an 04' G35 coupe. i asked in the G section but apparently nobody has ever put cams in a G coupe. ever. I figured since it shares the same drivetrain you guys might be able to offer a little insight. Assuming the car is mostly full bolt on (intake, exh, plenum spacer, ECU tune), are there any reasonable gains that is? in specific the mild cams that dont require upgrading the valvetrain. Let it be known, it would be a daily driver so im not interested in boost or anything crazy expensive. please, if you dont have VALUEABLE information dont post in this thread I would like to keep it clean. I dont want a 3 page long pissing match about NOS, FI, and other ridiculous things. just looking for a little info on cams.

Thanks in advance

I don't know that I would go through the trouble of doing "mild" cams without valvetrain upgrades simply because I wouldn't want to do all the work when I know I may be able to go a bit more aggressive and get better gains. If probably wouldn't do cams at all on a daily. Too many variables for my taste, but that's my taste I guess.

That said, I haven't found much information about it because people usually just go for a boosted setup rather than building n/a for a bit then boosting. I can imagine you'd see modest gains of 15 whp with a tune with a mild setup. I say that conservatively because you'd see a bit more than that with a mild cam setup on a v8, which typically has 30-40% more displacement to work with.

Anyway... my post was moreso to attempt to drum up more discussion. Sorry I don't have any hard information to offer.

Thanks for the reply. I'm pretty undecided about it, and I cant seem to find enough definitive proof that they are worth it. It just surprises me that for as many Z's that are driving around, nobody's throwing cams at them. Especially with how many companies are offering them. I'm not hell bent on them, and thats why im leaning towards the mild cams. Since, it's a daily driver I really want to bring out the power that the engine has to offer, but I dont want to f*** with it to the point that its unreliable and in the garage every other week. I figured with some mild cams i can eek another 15 or so HP out of it and not have to tear into the heads for springs and what not.
