Awhile ago there was some talk and experimenting with this to get the 1st gear start without haveing to pay the bucks for the 93 TCU. I can't find the info in the archive - if anyone has the link or info let me know.

I want to combo this with the ECU upgrade. Has anyone done this?

94 TCU works fine.. We tested on a 92 Q with 94 TCU.. 94 TCU, 94 ECU..... Worked perfect, but at WOT it held the shift just a tiny little bit longer, no worries though... Trust me, get it and youl love it!

I love it! Takes off like a bat out of hell.

For smoother shifts I let off the gas slightly just at 7000rpm. With the 94 TCU it goes slightly beyond 7000 before shifting.

I've got the same combo. Mine shifts at about 7200 rpm.

Wasn't there a place to get one for $58 shipped, or some other great price? Pn the ECU, it will work better with the 94 then the 90?

I was thinking of getting the upgraded ECU - is the company JCU or JET - I can't recall. Who has the best price on these?

Is it worth getting a TCU for a 1994 Q45a?

Or should I just go with ECU?

I will start hunting around for one of these. BTW, where is it located in the vehicle to remove? Also, does anyone have the AAAcomp ECU upgrade?

If I can find the 1993 TCU for about the same price - (31036-64-U20) - would this be a better choice?

The only reason... WIth a JWT ECU and no TCU it will shift at WOT at the stock 6900 RPM... You have to hold the gear selector all the way to 7300. Personally I do this anyway so its no biggie!

The TCU is located on the drivers side kick panel (carpet piece right by the parking brake).. There a nut on the firewall, covered by a piece of carpet that you must remove... 10mm... The ECU is in the same place, onthe passenger side... Same deal.....

I think Qship has the aaacomp upgrade... IMHO the JWT isnt worth the money (I have it) for what it does... For $200 i think its worthwhile!

93 TCU- if you can find one for the same, sure itd be better, but dont go searching around for months for a 93 when you could go out and get a 94 TCU tomorrow!

The shift points in the 93 TCU result in smoother shifts under full acceleration, so yes, get that if its the same price.

Green: No point changing the TCU in a 94.

I will be upgrading my ECU.The only infomation I found @ JWT says:Give's 1st gear starts.Doesn't the 94 start in 1st anyway?

I was gonna oreder a JWT ECU.. then I thought about making one myself and coping the EERPOM from a JWT. I can't find a EEPROM image for the 1994 Active Q45.

I understand the socket makes for a quicker change out. Can't you just flash the EEPROM on the ECU?

I was wondering if the GReddy Engine controller would give you the same effect...

AAA Comp e-mailed and they no longer do the ECU upgrade. They said the choices are JWT or Dinan. Anyone have info on the Diban or direct experience with it?

I would like to sell my 1993 JWT ECU and 1993 TCU that I have in my 1990 Q45 if I could get a decent price. I think I have over $600 in these two items. I got a matched set because I thought they would work better together. There is still a slight harshness to the 1 to 2 shift but it might have more to do with my rebuilt transmission. I tried the AAAcomp unit previously and it did not work. The reason for wanting to sell them it that my engine developed a rod failure for the second time and am thinking that there is not enough of a safety margin in the design of the JWT. I still have the original controllers that came with the car which I would reinstall. I heard that the 1990 ECU might have been setup for higher performance anyway and in all honesty I did not notice that much difference other than the higher shift point and the higher top speed due to the removal of the limiter.
