i just got my g35 and its only been 7k miles on it and my next oil change is supposedly in couple weeks but the problem is that i was wonderin sometimes whenever i take off or speedin or somethin i would smell like oil inside but i wouldnt think its the oil already and i see smokes sometimes coming from my hood/headlights so i was wonderin if its just normal cuz the engine is like that or if somethings wrong with either overheating or the oil problem which i doubt cuz the cluster would say so about the overheating thing....any help would be appreciated

Ahh j/k earlier. Sounds like your leaking something under the hood and its burning off when the car gets warm. Take it somewhere to have it checked out. And no its not normal for that to happen.

You never played Monopoly as a kid?

What is the oil level in the engine (measured cold on level ground, of course)? Is it changing? Low? Overfull? Dropping day by day? Can you see any oil splatters anywhere in the engine compartment?

Seeing smoke from the headlight regions is unusual, to say the least! Please get the car looked at by the dealer immediately!

Smoke coming from the engine /hood area is always cause for concern. Take it to a dealer when that happens.

I hope you are checking your oil weekly?Either after the vehicle has sat all night or after 30 min after use on level ground.

Hi there. I was reading posts from other Infiniti users and I found this one! I have kinda similar problem with my G Coupe! I have no smoke visible but I do have some kind of smell (like oil smell) getting into the car. It happens only after longer driving on the higher speed (mostly highway) and stopping the car (lets say on the stop lights) after getting off the highway. It happens all the time and I do have to open my windows to get this smell away!!! Please help, because I have no idea what it can be!!!P.S. Again there is no smoke coming from anywere. And it is winter time where I live and I have heating on all the time. I don't know is it related, but it's just to let u guys know to get more acurate answer. THX.

I also am in the cold and notice the smell after a long drive. Someone thought it might be from the brakes but I doubt it. The roads are snow covered and you can barely hit the brakes, and I am sure they are staying plenty cool as well. Has anyone else had this problem/found a solution?

I noticed this smell when I first bought my G... I swear it smelled like burining oil, but then after a month or so I realized that it was:

The smell of fear and jealousy from other drivers! It's actually a pretty sweet smell... it smells a lot like the "smell of victory".

My advice to you is to just keep an eye on the oil level and make sure your oil cap/dipstick is secured properly.

I LIKE THAT ANSWER !!!!!

But I did checked oil cap/dipstick - it was the first thing I checked and of course oil level and everything looks fine!!!

Anyone have an idea what it can be???

hey bullet,Someone at work was saying that when you get snow built up in the wheel wells, it can rub on the tires and make them smell. I noticed that you live in IL and have been seeing a lot of snow as well so it might be the problem. Has anyone else heard of this?

I get a smell when i drive fast... Like if i am in stop and go traffic and i am using the clutch alot.

Is that the clutch that i smell buring?

I get it also if i take off fast and shift in the high RPS and then when i get back to the next stop light i can smell something burning.

I check my oil and its dosen't burn any!!!!

Yea occasionally(daily ) when I beat my car I've got that smell. I have the AT. So clutch is out. I think that is normal. I took out the EX35 last week and it did the same after 10 minutes of thrilling hardcore on the engine.

It is a nice little ride. Feels pretty tight on the corners. Only drawback with the rear legroom. Ithink it is better looking then the FX. Full with tech.

Overall I liked it a lot however I would not trade my G for it.

I'm guessing you're referring to your PCV system, but that system really isn't designed to return oil as much as gasses that escaped the combustion chamber.

What you are seeing as residue is probably residue from those gasses. Basically, you've unsealed a sealed system, and that could be problematic in the future. You may have even created a giant vacuum leak. You don't hear a loud hissing when the engine is running and the hood is open do you?

If you are getting oil in the intake, not just a little black residue, but oil, you may have a defective PCV valve.
