dsocohen, in my experience, that is how the problem starts. It will get worse over time so try protecting it as much as possible.dsocohen wrote:I have a 2010 Nissan GT-R and it appears to be suffering from some of the same symptoms that you guys are describing; however, there seems to be a slight variation. Maybe you guys can clarify the issue. This summer I started noticing that the rubber/ vinyl section of my dash would get a bit shiny and tacky. it looks like the "peaks" in the vinyl dimpling are getting shiny and tacky while the "valleys" are not. Once the interior temperature of the car cools down, the dash goes back to being its regular non-shiny, non-tacky self. With your melty dashes, are they permanently sticky? I don't have any of the pooling or flowing that some of you have shown in your pictures. The dash just gets sticky temporarily. TIA!
Johnnymetal wrote:Hi everyone I was reached out to through FB about this thread, when I posted on NICOclub FB profile. Thanks to whoever did that. I have a 2008 Altima sedan, living in West Palm Beach FL. Over the years the shine has spread out over the dash, and everyone here knows the shine is a sticky material from the result of the dashboard melting. I've talked to the dealership West Palm Beach Nissan where I purchased my Altima and they laughed over the phone, stating that it's pass the 2yr factory warranty. Pissed me off and would never go there again. I love my Altima but I lost respect for Nissan's customer service. I haven't gone farther than that to gain a new dashboard at Nissan's expense in which they should.
I hope this could get resolved, my next option when I can afford the extra cash is to buy one off Ebay (not 2008) and install myself, Im not a excellent mechanic but I don't fear project work. The reflection from the dash can be extremely distracting,I have a dash cover for 2yrs now to help. The major issue to me is the value of my car has dropped with this defective, distracting, unsafe, ugly dashboard. Who would want to spend thousands on a car from a company who will no matter what avoid this issue, why not be honorable to their clients/customers/buyers.
I will post pics before the week to this thread, I've seen many over the years of this issue. I wanted to joint and rant to increase the number of consumer awareness of this issue. DO NOT buy a used 2008 Nissan Altima, especially in hot states.
I will read through this thread for more advice.
Thanks for reading,
Johnny
I called Nissan , the district manager is going to tell me what they are going to do by Friday. By the way, I live in Tn, so it's not just Fla.atcmiami11 wrote:i have a 2008 altima coupe. the dashboard is melting also. this must be a factory defect. has anybody questioned nissan about it????
Congrats Gary!!!!!!!!Gary01 wrote:Hello to all! . GOOD NEWS! After being VERY persistent and being denied by the dealer service department, dealer service manager; and Nissan/Infiniti Corporate with a case#. I contacted the GM at the my local dealer who finally helped me and got me a new complete dash. The cost was $2,045, and at first they said I was only responsible for $45.00 of the cost. I thought that was so odd, but I said OK. However, they finally waived that too. So I guess sometimes “ the squeaky wheel does get the grease”. Sometimes being persistent does pay off. To all other keep pushing and demand satisfaction. Below is a website that I found after much searching of Nissan corporate contacts that somebody spend a lot of time putting together. I tried to e-mail him and thank him, but he didn't reply, and I don't know how current it is. But it might be helpful. Best of luck to all. I would like to hear back from others who has either had success or continued to get denied.

Thanks Gary - I called the Service Manager up who sent me to the General Manager of the dealership who sold the car. He said it's just as much news to him as it is to me that the dashboard is melting. Since it's not a recall they had no idea... He's going to reach out to Nissan Monday and let me know. Rediculous; I'll see if I can try some of those contacts.Gary01 wrote:Same happened to me on my 2008 Infiniti EX35, but I kept on pressing. I would e-mail and talk to the service manager & the general manager at the dealership and see if they will help get it approved. That's how I got it done after Nissan /Infiniti consumer affairs denied my claim even after giving me a reference number. Also reach out to some of these contacts on this list I found that a NICO said is a good list. As you know it's public knowledge there are many pending class action lawsuits against Nissan now for this issue.
I even contacted the lead attorney (http://www.girardgibbs.com/) who told me although they tried to include the Infiniti in the suit, so far the court has rejected Infiniti. Nissan has fixed or paid for some of the repairs for the Alitima's.but not all

You can also go to NHTSA (http://www.safecar.gov) and file a report/problem. It all helps.
Good luck, keep pushing them. The squeaky wheel gets the grease!!!
