Last night we had horrible storms and my hubby woke me up about 11:30 to tell me the tornado sirens were going off. I got up and ran into the living room because my daughter sleeps upstairs and I wanted to get her down with us. I hollered "Allison" she said "M'am" and she was down in the kitchen. I ran in there and told her that we had tornado warnings and she had her keys in her hand and was going to go out and move her car!!

:ohno:

Like Mom, like daughter. She didn't care that all Hell was breaking loose outside, she was just worried about her car.

:chuckle:

BTW, we didn't have any damage. Just some limbs down.

We've done this many times in the wake of a pre-storm, or during.

Can't help to hang onto those depreciating assets!

Very glad of garage now, I can just rollover and go back to sleep. Or go to basement and hug cars.

Thought your daughter was old(er), not given her the boot yet?

She is 22. I have re-booted her twice.

:chuckle:

She is ok. She doesn't bother me too much. The 2 Zs and David's truck are in the garage, her Civic has to sleep outside...under TONS of trees.

Depending on pictures she could come live with me for a while.

Ok, stopping old dirty man thinking.

Civics need to be outside. :)

You better be careful. If she totals one more car...you can have her. ;)

If gas gets much higher, I might let her have the Camaro and I'LL drive the Civic.

I actually had to sign a statement from State Farm on each of my vehicles stating that Allison was not allowed to drive them and if she did they wouldn't cover it!

She wouldn't touch my Camaro. She knows better. She loves Rambo just like I do. She used to go to all the car shows and car club meetings with me till she got to old for me. :frown:

Our belief was that it was a lot cheaper to buy them a car to tear up then to have them tear up yours. I can promise you....they are going to have an accident.

You need to raise your expectations and theirs.
I remember my oldest telling the other two ' you will total your fist car '.
I immediately chimed in with 'I didn't and neither did your mother!!'
Guess he was trying to justify the one that he totaled....in a parking lot...on a curb... :slap:
And, yes, then my daughter totaled her G20 in the rain.... :frown:
HOPING that junior is more careful!!!

MY deal is that they save up $1k and we match it for a down payment on something where their payment is $150 per month or less....and they make the payment.

I don't think Zo has a thing to worry about. I know I never totaled another car after I got my license....

The very first day I got my license, I lost control of my Mom's '70 Charger. Nobody was hurt, and I only bent 2 rims and an A-frame. I think that was God's way of teaching me how to respect a car and what it can do. I have never tried to take a corner like that again and I have never wrecked a vehicle again.

Bryan had a small fender bender...didn't even damage the car he hit. Allison on the other hand  had lots of fender benders (most not her fault), totalled a Civic about 4 months after we got it, wrecked the next Civic we got her and almost got arrested for driving on a suspended license. :tisk: That was the last straw. I told her that her next vehicle was going to be a pair of Nike's.

I'm sure y'all all are thinking that I spoiled her with cars, but you have to realize that Memphis is a horrible town with horrible crime. She was going to U of M and I wanted to make sure she had a car that would not break down on her. If you wonder why I'm that way, Google Holly Bobo. Horrible things can happen to young pretty girls. I would have never forgiven myself if she had had a clunker and it left her stranded and something happened to her.

Sorry to rattle on. ;) Cars and kids are a horrible combination.

Your mom had a Charger? Apparently cool moms run in your family.

After googling Holly Bobo, the only question I have about what you gave your daughter is, automatic? Or revolver?

You want so badly for that story to come out ok, but you just can't convince yourself there's much chance of that....

[8pm edit: I really meant that I want the Holly Bobo story to come out ok, but....]

Yup...mom had a red Charger with a black vinyl top. 318 2bbl. One day, if you don't mind my rattling on, I'll tell you a funny story about that car.

I feel so bad for Holly and her family. I got Allison some pepper spray, I don't really trust her with a gun. She is fast as the wind and I have always tried to teach her street smarts and I pray a lot. :)

Rattle any time you want. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would enjoy the story. My mom had a '69 Cutlass, with the 350/310 4bbl. Four door brown sedan that would chirp the tires going to second on a 3speed auto. I used to drive it a lot because she liked driving my 6cyl Mustang to her teaching job 15 miles away due to the mpg.

The gun reference was just an exaggeration of my feelings. No kid that age should be carrying a gun unless they were raised handling them, and probably not even then.

Prayers for that family.

Ok...this is one of my favorite car stories. My mom had a red Charger with a black vinyl top. The guy I was dating had a red Charger with a black vinyl top. The major difference in the 2 is this...Mom's was a 318 2bbl, Chuck's was a 440 crate motor built by Racing Head Service. 3 2bbls carbs, headers, cam...you name it, that car had it.

Now...one day Mom was driving me home from school. I was always blabbing about cars...ALWAYS. Jerk punk kid from down the street came by us in his brother's 340 Dart. He yelled at my Mom "you wanna race that piece of $hit?" Well...that just didn't sit right with me. This is where it gets funny, when Mom pulled into the garage, Chuck pulled up in front of the house. I ran out there and told him to move over.

I drove the car down to the end of the street where this kid was out playing football in the front yard with his friends. I pulled up in front of the house and yelled at him "did you want to race this POS? You can just imagine what that big block sounded like with that cam and headers.

OMG...did he back down, right in front of his buddies. He said, that's my brother's car and I'm not allowed to race it. I said for him to never talk to my Mom like that again and then proceeded to leave two black marks all the way down the street.

You should have heard him talking at school about the car that Becki's Mom drives.

:lolling:

Never figured out it was 2 different cars.

I have fate in my son. Just try to be cautioned. LOL What if.......when...... I rather see him in a little less hp car first and when he proved himself move to something more. He is not really into cars. Surprisingly.

I will probably get rid of the G next year. Planning to get another rent house next year. Probably will end up getting something cheaper for DD. Than when I'll get my other house I will buy something sporty. For few months will end up with nothing more than 150hp. LOL

Should be interesting. But anything for a good investment. I still want to buy one house after. We shall see if that is all comes true. Not liking the property taxes.

Mudge....I'm a tad red in the neck. I never could stand for someone to come out from a light faster than me. I have outgrown that. Seen to many idiot Memphis drivers run red light.

Zo...you are a smart man. You are getting rid of something that depreciates and buying something that appreciates. I'm not that smart...hell...look at me, I have a Camaro worth about 8 or 9k just sitting in the garage collecting dust. Not smart at all.

Zo, you should go for a sporty rental house.

Becki, if you want to talk red necks, my grandfather had one of the original tobacco price support allotments in the thirties. Nobody in my generation of the family would have made it to college without King Tobacco, and not many of us did even then.

I recently watched a 90-something Buick redlight t-bone a beautiful new white Mustang GT convertible in front of a mall. Five lane wide intersection including turn lanes. I was in the rightmost go-straight lane, Mustang was in the leftmost. Light turned green, I started to pull out, and stabbed the brake when I caught something barreling along in my periperal vision. Mustang couldn't see him for me and the car on my left, pulled out directly into his path. Being a redneck instead of a fanboy probably saved me. A fanboy would have been powerbraking in the delusion of getting a jump on a Mustang GT; a redneck can sense pending humiliation and whistle his way past it.
