Wow, so this is a nightmare that's started almost 2 months ago, with my 240. Bought a '90 F/B that needed rings & injectors from an ex-member of this board down in Cincinnatti for $1500. He also gave me a spare motor that he swore up and down was good, and that he had "just taken out of one of his other 240s." I get the motor home (in the back seat of the F/B nonetheless) after a 3 hour drive, take it to my mechanic, who installs it for $300. Not too bad.

After he gets it put in, we start to fill the system up with fluids, and we notice antifreeze dripping on the floor....%&)*%*!&% right out the head. Bastard lied to me about the engine. So i tow the car back to my house, and drive my roommate's spare car ('87 Lesabre) for a few weeks, then move home with my parents for a month and while my sis is in Spain on vacation i drive her '96 4 door pink Crapalier. Talk about humbling/humiliating.

So after saving money for a month, moving home and working 70+ hours a week at my home Autozone, I move back to school (still with Crapalier) and have a KA longblock imported from Japan.

Get the longblock up here to school, drop it and the car off. A few days go by, he calls me and says that they went to manually turn the motor to get the #1 piston to TDC and something went "Clunk" and wouldn't let the crank turn anymore....said that he would check the stupid little stuff the next morning, but he would prolly have to rip the motor back out take off the oil pan and see if it's in the lower part of the motor, and if that's not where it is take off the head and find out what's goin on in there. So next day (yesterday) i go out, buy a head gasket, full head gasket set, head bolts, & oil pan gasket (about $140) and call him to see if he's home so i can drop it off. He answers and says "Take it all back". Now about this time i'm thinking "****! there's something terminally wrong with the motor." He says that the gear for the distributor must've been jostled out of alignment while the car was in transit, and that it runs like a top now, but it idled rough, and didn't accelerate good. He thinks it's the TPS, but i'm thinking that it's just sat for 2 months and the gas in it is no good anymore.

So i go pick it up later at night, and he's right it is idling rough, and there's also a pretty bad misfire. He checked the brand new spark plugs, and they were all pretty much fouled out, so he sanded the tips on them just to clean 'em up and it still ran rough. So after paying him, and taking it to Sunoco right across the street from my Autozone, i dump a bottle of Lucas injector cleaner in it, and pump it full of Ultra 94 octane. Pull out of the Sunoco and it's still missing. About half-way home though it's purring like a kitten....bad gas will do nasty things to a car.

So, very long story short...she runs great....now i just have to get the interior lights working after dark so i can see what i'm doinglol

Well all KAs are made in Japan, Im not sure if any cars get them there.

But the bigger question is why the HEL L would you Import a long block???

yes they did make the KA24 in japan just like most any motor in japanese cars. It just runs a higher compression i would imagine.

Nismodave does have a point :D

the reason i did it, was that it was guaranteed under 30k miles, 6 month full parts warranty, and only $1050 for the thing shipped...

Cheapest i could find a KA anywhere around me was $1000 for one with 70k miles. granted that one was complete, but i already have all of the boltons, and we're talkin 40k miles of difference....low mileage is important to me, because this motor's gotta last me quite awhile...but that 40k miles is almost 3 years worth of driving for me (if i was gonna use this one as a daily driver, but i'm not so it's more like 5+ years worth of mileage)

I have two motors sitting around, if i had had more time and more knowledge, i would have taken the head from one, and the block from the other and built it up, but i didn't...this is my only car.

So my plan for now is to get a storage place, and keep them in storage til i actually have some money, then buy all forged internals and build it up for a turbo KA

it was Drastic240 his name's Lawrence....he's useless, and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna just sue the **** outta him. Found out a clause from my family mechanic that if i have an eye witness (which i do) his word is as good as written word, and he swore up and down that the motor was good and that he would have used it himself if he was keeping the car

woah. That almost sounds like my situation.

Bought my car from a former member of these boards, came with a spare motor that he swore up and down was fine....Yeah...sure....anyhow, I only paid 1000 for the car so it wasn't that bad, said he would have put the same motor in "had he been keeping the car."

Put it in the car, didn't run for crap... pulled off the valve cover....exhaust side rocker assembly was snapped in half, so, I took the head off and noticed that there was some fuel chillin' on one of the pistons. I pressed down on it and the damn thing went down to the bottom of the bore without any resistance. Sucks bad.

I'm stumped on this too. WTF did you go all the way to Japan for, when you could have pulled a motor out of a car here the US? Or, you could have spent the money that you spent on getting a motor from Japan on having one of your 2 KA's rebuilt here.

time was the main reason....i had to have the car done within a very small window of time, and couldn't find anywhere reliable around here to do it within a reasonable amount of time.

the other reasons were all already stated in another post above
