Ok ok, yes I know this is a nissan forum and I'm a bigger bike fan than I am a car fan, but my local dealership has been getting new mustang GT's. I have yet to see one in person, but I have seen enough pics online to know I will like this body style.I have to complain about their SOHC heads. Sure they went from 2 to 3 valves now (260hp to 300hp), but with the cobra being supercharged, shouldn't the GT get bumped up to DOHC? I guess one good thing will be the increased low end you will have over a DOHC.Plus being able to get one for less than what a WRX costs is a plus

*edit* Alright the ford website says it's OHV. Depending on the website i have seen SOHC, DOHC and now OHV. I better just stop in before work and check them out personally to see who's right.

The new mustang is PATHETIC. 300 hp out of a 4.6 liter V8 is about as disgusting as things get. I love the looks, though. But from what I have heard, the handling is nothing to brag about. And with only 300 hp in the GT (TOP END ONE!!) there's no reason to buy one. I can go out and buy a 300 hp 1990 300zx that handles like a Porche and has a 3 liter V6 (!!) for under 10k, why spend 30k on a new mustang?

I have seen one in person...I was cruising next to it on the freeway the other day. Too bad I wasn't in the A34...would have shown him what a real performance car can do.

Pathetic is a little harsh. The older (94-98) GT's wern't so hot and the newer GT's had plastic intake manifolds and valve covers. I wouldn't call a GT top of the line either. You forgot about the cobra with IRS instead of live axle.

Ok you are right, hp/liter isn't the best, but it's all about having a flat torque curve. I have just recently driven an 01 trans-am (never have before). Hp/liter is even worse, but being an OHV had good torque right off idle and smooth power till redline. Why wait till right before redline to have any power? It's not as much fun to drive something with no torque.

Yeah...I see where you are coming from, and I realize what an improvement it is (the old 'stangs were a 25 year old platform!!!)

I just find it hard to be impressed by a 4.6 liter OHV V8 making 300 hp when the current Maxima is making 265hp and 255 lb-ft with a 3.5 liter V6, with a very good power and torque curve.

Is the GT really top of the line? I guess from the dealer yeah. But a saleen or svt mustang is a different story. But alas SVT is taking break. Lazy bishez!!!

Fortunately Jack Rouche (sp?) and his team have already put together a very impressive version of the new Mustang. Of course, it'll end up costing more than the Corvette and still not bw quite as good, but at least it'll have over 300hp.

I thought I was going to like the new stangs appearance, but I was one on the road a few days ago, and it just didn't live up to the pictures. It seemed so much more bland in person, it was dissapointing. The Stang continues to be a half *** muscle car in my opinion. The Cobra wont be released for another year or two right?

I have seen several of them around and don't really like the styling, of course I didn't like the mach1's which seems to be what they are designed to resemble so thats probably why. As for performance i wouldn't really want one, I'd buy a Z or if I wanted something american a GTO. Of course if I did I'd take it to Lingenfelter since they are in Fort Wayne and I feel are the best(his cars won 2001 and 2002 supercar of the year by car and driver). Actually maybe a used vette and take it to them. Here check out the link it shows their 650hp twin turbo C6 in limited 25 production run http://www.lingenfelter.com home.asp and some other vehicles that dominate http://www.lingenfelter.com/LP...r.asp

Yeah, 2006 at the soonest for the cobra, but I'm guessing 2007.

the V8 is a SOHC, the V6 is an OHV.

either or, the new mustang is something to get excited about. it's a step in the correct direction for what Ford should be offering to the public. We don't have many sports cars being produced that don't cost a lot.

Also, the reason why the modular V8 in the GT is only a SOHC is because of cost. Ford is unwilling to produce a DOHC in such a mass produced car (mustang production figures are very high)

The new Mustangs still have solid rear ends and C6's still use leaf springs. People are funny.

the new mustang is designed to accept an IRS as well. If I were to get one, I'd try to get a hold of the setup after the cobras came out.

Yeah, I know the Cobras have IRS and I'm interested to see what those will look/perform like. The last gen really grew on me through the years-I started out hating them and the way they looked, but in the last year or so, the fact that the Cobras have awesome power and maybe my tastes evolving has changed my mind. I wouldn't mind one....except for the shifter. ick

I've never shifted a Mustang, really that bad?

The HP/Liter thing is a big sticking point for me. Power right at redline is fine, because the point is to KEEP it at redline ALL THE TIME when you're trying to drive fast. I do sorta like how they look, but to be honest I liked the previous generation considerably better, just like I liked the C5 more than the C6.

I will likely go test drive one though, just for fun. Maybe tomorrow. The things'll depreciate fast as stink though, always do.

So you only use your cars for racing and never commuting? Thats cool, im sure riding a mt.bike to get groceries works pretty good.

Yeah that would be a nice car, but for the money I'd rather have an F250 and a trailer to pull my new mustang and motorcycle to the track.

Chances are when SVT returns next year, the Cobra will give the CTS a run for it's money and also look sexy. Don't get me wrong, I did the CTS V but I like the Mustang's body so so much more...oh, and the mod motors kick ***.

the cars a killer in person by the way. If I had one, I'd have to get some louvres for the quarter windows though, they look kinda funny...
