Slater's 50/50 Serves a 100% Bacon Burger, Tops it With Bacon Cheese, Bacon Dressing, Bacon
Friday, July 6, 2012, by Paula Forbes

There have been burgers with lots (and lots and lots) of bacon on top of them in the past, but a burger made entirely out of bacon is a new one. Slater's 50/50, a hamburger restaurant with three locations in Southern California, is offering the 100% ground bacon 'Merica Burger as their July burger of the month. Because, you know, freedom.

And the bacon isn't just in the burger: it's topped with thick-cut bacon, "bacon island" dressing, and cheddar bacon. (There is also an egg on it.) Below, the full, bacon-y ad for the burger, which you have til the end of the month to order, as well as a press release.

The full ad. >>>
SLATER’S 50/50 RETURNS TO ITS ROOTS WITH THE ‘MERICA BURGER
(Orange County, Calif. – July 1, 2012) – Slater’s 50/50 celebrates Independence Day all month long with the star spangled ‘Merica Burger. As American as apple pie or football, the 100 percent ground bacon burger is a Slater’s 50/50 exclusive. In fact it’s the burger that started it all.

The concept for Slater’s 50/50 Burgers by Design came out of a dare at a Charger’s tailgate party between owner Scott Slater and some of his San Diego State University buddies … Could a 100 percent ground bacon burger work? After some tweaking and perfecting (and a few small grease fires), the answer was yes. And though the restaurant’s menu revolves around the 50/50 burger – 50 percent ground beef, 50 percent ground bacon, Slater’s 50/50 is proud to return to its roots with the July Burger of the Month.

More than 1.7 billion pounds of bacon are consumed in U.S. restaurants each year and Slater's 50/50 is doing its best to round that out to and even 2 billion. More than just a ground bacon patty, the ‘Merica Burger takes bacon to the extreme with a sunny-side-up egg, thick cut bacon, bacon island dressing and bacon cheddar cheese for a burger unlike any other.

The Burger of the Month is available at all three Slater’s 50/50 locations – Huntington Beach, Anaheim Hills and San Diego –through July 31.

I LOLd!

That burger actually looks pretty good too. I mean, you'll be thirsty for weeks after consumption, but it'll be worth it.

Does anyone know of anywhere that sells ground bacon (whether in 50/50 form, or other)?

Based on the reviews from Urban Spoon, they have a bitchin' beer selection too.
They appear to be much more than a fast food restaurant. Wish I could visit the place.

Who are you a sous chef for?

They're a Gourmet Burger Restaurant. I was thinking about applying when I get to Cali.

I'm not going to beat around the bush. Its hard work, but the bright side is good pay, paid vacations and good health benefits. I've been working for Hillstone 9 and half year. I started out at the bottom and Have worked my way up to the top. In my time with them I've learned its not for everyone. The people I see that have a problem with Hillstone are the ones that want to have some creative freedom in the kitchen.

Cliff notes;
Were a high end food assemble line.

Damn. I can live with that, but really the executive chef is the only one who gets to have fun anyways. I got 5 years of QSR and 5 years of Line experience. I was thinking about going for an entry level Sous Chef position, but i figured maybe a year on the line to get used to Cali laws.
