alright so my buddy comes over with his 240sx and says that he wants me to help him lower his kts coils and adjust his rear toe and his front camber

so we do that, slap the wheels on, and go to back out, and discover, THE FRONT WHEELS ARE LOCKED! not only that but he lost brake pressure

the pads on his j30 brakes are pushing up against his rotors and its rubbing like crazy

we replace his master cylinder and that didnt do anything at all, so i inspect his rotor and discover that they are pretty warped, he says that makes sence cause when he brakes it shook alot (signs of warped rotors)

so we got some replacement j30 rotors, drill for 4 lug, and put them on, drivers side is perfectly fine performing normally, the passenger is still rubbing

only on the front of the rotor, on less than half of a revolution, and the outer half of the rotor, its scouring hardcore

any ideas on what could be causing this to happen?

i had thought that his pads could be doing it from the warped rotors, and i was thinking about replacing the whole caliper completely but that still dosnt explain why he lost brake pressure

please help!!

Thats odd dude, perhaps something wasn't tightend completely when it was first installed and there was a slow leak? Weirder things have happened.

Make sure to check the lines. Sounds like the caliper may be frozen and needs to be replaced or give it a good hit with a rubber mallet and see if it frees up. As far as the pedal pressure issue, It sounds like there is a loose brake line or one of the brake lines is bloated and shot. I would order a set of steel conversion lines, and a new front caliper. But before any of that, make sure that all the lines are tight and routed properly.

ill answer them in order

1. we didnt even touch the brakes at all when doing the work and nothing was leaking or anything before hand and everythign was fine

2. i thought that it was the caliper too, i have a set of j30 calipers as spares for my friend, ill probably install those, as for lines, the frotns are stainless steel lines and we never even took the rear wheels off so idono how it could be the rears

3. lol, yea ive messed up on simpler stuff than that, yea we blead and tried pumping the brakes about 3 times, after everything we did to try to fix the caliper

4. im just going to pull off that caliper and replace it with the others then and make sure everything is grease up then on the replacement caliper

thanks everybody

Nothing more for me to add - This is one of those threads where everyone's "strictly business" and fixing s*** left and right.

NICE work, guys.

When you install coilovers you do have to undo the brake like from the old bracket and put it back on. That's the only thing I see related to brakes.

negative, it was never secure to that point and we didnt install coilovers

we just dropped the spindle mount and kept the whole strut attatched at the top hat

hes got full length adjustability so it just pulled off and moved one of those spinny locky things on the strut out the way to lower it more cause them kts's dont lower that far

My j30's were drilled by myself and I probably could have drilled them better the first time around. That being said, they weren't sitting flush on the hub perfectly or something because of the drilled holes being a bit off. Make sure they fit well.

Did you adjust the master cylinder after J30 install? Maybe you adjusted it too far because the s13 BMC needs more travel for j30s to properly disengage while the pedal is not depressed. You may still re-adjust your bmc after j30 install, but not too much! Leave some room for fluid to flow and make the larger calipers come back away from the rotors. Then your j30s should be golden assuming you rebuilt and greased slider pins

YES. I drilled my rotors once and didn't do it exactly perfect. It was leaving the rotor cocked off and causing shimmy and other miserable things.Make sure the hat of the rotor isnt lipped up on the hub because there is a slanted edge.

FIGURED IT OUT!!

horrible horrible crap

so a lug was broken giving the illusion of a warped rotor so that was useless purchase

upon examining it, i found that his brake pad was so worn down that it slipped out of the guides and loged itself between the rotor and the caliper

horrible horrible luck

pressure is still weak but we replaced the pads and no problems so far besides horribly squishy brake pedals
