Nah, It's not very important at all to me. I can't afford to buy one so I'm not even going to worry about it.

I would smother my grandmother with a pillow to get my hands on that. Hell, i'd off her just to get my hands on the wheels and brakes, and maybe the differential oil cooler... and the carbon drive shaft...

For that amount of money, what makes that Skyline (493hp/398 lb-ft) a better buy than a CL65 (512/737) or Carrera GT2 (456/457) or F430 (483/343)? Or if you want all wheel the Gallardo (500/369)? I'm really asking? Is that sacrilege?

*edit: CL 65 - 612hp *

It doesn't. They are making profit off of the GT-R badge.

Three things make it better.

1.) It is not a Ferrari or Lamborghini or AMG, it's a NISSAN. Not a supercar company. But it can keep up. I'd pay three times that to kick big-name *** in a "regular" brand car--if I had three times that in my bank account.

2.) The AMG is ugly. As ugly as ugly can be...MB couldn't build a good looking car if their company depended on it (which it does not...people buy them for the badge, not the car itself). The Porche is even uglier. Plus, Porche hasn't sold a car worth it's price since the late 80's.

3) The Skyline seats five. So, I could kick Ferrari/Lamborghini/AMG *** with four other people in my car.

Don't get me wrong, I'd LOVE to have an F430 (I'd rather have a 575 M Maranello first) or a Gallardo. But the Skyline's a whole different world. It's an average, two door family sedan at its roots, but it can do EVERYTHING these amazing supercars can do.

Oh those were exotic vehicles? I'm embarassed. I assumed they were other cars, reading and brandy will do that to you.

I still stand by my point.

Oh, I don't doubt there's profit being made off the GT-R badge for one second, but I still think that the Skylines heritage is what makes it a better car than the others.

Am I understanding you correctly when you are stating that the Skyline's heritage superceeds that of the Porsche 911?

I mean the 911's career started 6 years before the GTR. It has won more races than the GTR ever has. And since it's conception has always been the faster car.

A comparison

1969 911 S 2.0L Aircooled RR Flat 6170 HP @ 6800 RPM 135 TQ @ 5200 RPM995 KG (2195 lbs.)

1969 Skyline GTR2.0L Watercooled FR Inline 6160 HP @ 7000 RPM120 TQ @ 5600 RPM1120 KG (2470 lbs.)

It must be noted that both cars are rare, and are both high on my wish list.

So far the closest of the two I have driven is my friends 66 Porsche 911 w/ the 2.0L Flat-6. It has only 148 HP but in a 2370 lbs. car it was more than enough to make it run really well at about 5000 RPM hehe.

The 69' 911S did a 6.5 in the 0-60 test according to Car & Driver. This is back in the day on crappy no-grip tires on some 15x6 Fuchs!

I said heritage, not longevity. The Carerra GT2 is not a 911, either. But that's not the point.

What I meant was this:

What's the Carrera? Yet ANOTHER supercar from a known and established supercar company. It's nothing more or less than would be expected from a top of the line Porche. It is an amazing car, yes. But that is expected. What is it's heritage? A long line of supercars, each at the top of the sports car realm in it's day. Each one is expected to be, and inevitably is, an amazing performance machine.

What is the Skyline? It is a sedan. It's a four door car family car made by Nissan. It's sold on performance, reliability, and technology. But that same car, with the same engine (albeit a different displacement) and the same technology, can be made to do everything the Porche can. That family car, the grocery getter, can, with one tenth of a liter more displacement and two turbos, become a supercar. What is it's heritage? It began as a luxurious Japanese car, with clean looks and an aristocratic feel to it. Slowly, over time, it grew more sport oriented, but it still remained a sedan at heart. Then, in the late 80's/early 90's with the R31, an engine called the RB block was placed under the hood. The RB's capabilities astounded people. The two simple letters, RB, became easily recognizable. The car gained a fanatical cult following. And, with the introduction of the R32, things really began to take off. The car attained what can only be described as supercar status. It retained it's cult following for the most part, but was more widely known that before. Word or the amazing feats of the all wheel drive, RB26DETT powered Skyline GT-R began to circulate. Magazines wrote countless articles. in the mid 90's, the next generation Skyline was released. The R33 furthered this supercar trend and became (arguably) the purest iteration of this amazing car. And, what finally drove the GT-R to it's ultra-popular status (which, as a diehard Skyline fan nearly my whole life, drives me completely insane) a video game called Gran Turismo featured the car. Suddenly everyone was exposed to this astounding car with so much potential. Suddenly everyone who was interested in performance cars became aware of the existence of "The GT-R." The car continued to astound, with upgraded versions being released regularly from both Nissan and various other factories around the world. It broke records, it blew away expectations, and every time we thought it couldn't get any better, it proved us dead wrong. The R34 added even more to the car's resume. And, though it became heavier and more comfortable, and lost the tiniest of it's sportscar purism, it became even more amazing than its predecessor. We saw, once again, Nissan constantly developing the car, with VSpec, and VSpec II, then the 400R. Constantly evolving, constantly staying at the top of the game. Then it stopped. Production on this automotive icon ceased. Everyone wondered why...wanted to see, to even speculate about the "next GT-R." And to this day, no one has a clue, really. But it still grabs the attention and starts the fiercest of debates. And all we know is the engine size, and even that is not guaranteed.

And, at the base of all this, that amazing car, the icon, THE GT-R, is a four door family sedan that has a spory feel and comfortable seating for five.

THAT is the heritage that I was talking about. No other car on the planet can touch it.

very cool car. Whole lot of money though. Then again a commerative edition car of 20 would most likely hold the value. Regardless....pretty much well out of all of our reaches. Great find though

Hmmm, they've got an Impreza S203 for a much more reasonable $47k too.....

If I had $47k, I'd probably buy that, so long as I had a reasonable expectation of it actually being legal to drive.

Hey I can appreciate the underdog as well, though I sure as hell would not pay an absurd amount above any sort of reasonable value for that simple fact - expecially when it won't as you say "kick big name ***". Yes the above are super/sports cars, but I used them as a index simply b/c the only cars that are priced that high are cars of that type.

Beauty is subjective - I like the CL65, though I'm no fan of coupes. Further, you can't argue with 737 lb-ft of torque. Theres no arguing that its a monster with objective numbers much bigger than anything at that price/class.

If you want to compare the skyline to modified grocery getters that can go, you'd more than half the price range to make an apt comparison, and in so doing you destroy any notion of value in the Skyline when you compare performance and amenities. The new M5 the RS6, E55... I would take the plush feeling and performance of these cars over the spartan feeling and performance at more than twice the price anyday. I would say that any of the above are the best of both worlds - at a value - much more so than the Skyline at $200K

You have to take into account the rarity of the car also though....

The 400R, from a performance standpoint, is definitely not a $100,000 car. You could make a normal R33 GT-R equal the 400R's performance and have SERIOUS change left over from $100k.

What are the total production numbers on the Z-tune? 200 cars? that's only 100 more than the Mclaren F1's production run.....pretty limited if you ask me.

I don't think anyone is going to buy a Z-tune so they can mod it, they want it to remain a Z-tune, because that's what makes it so special and valuable.

I'm not saying that I'd spend $190k on the thing, I definitely wouldn't, but I am saying that's probably why SOME people would.

I'll take a Mine's R34 for a touch more than half the price....thanks.

I agree that rarity in an intangible that can - for some - be taken into account in value - but MB is only making 200 CL65s per year as well. And the RS6 came over in highly limited numbers - though I think around 1000. So that doesn't set the Skyline apart.

I suppose ultimately value becomes subjective when you take into account intangibles. I still dont find the value - while not denying its an awesome car - in paying $200k for that Skyline with what else is on the market in that price segment and what can be had for half as much w/ the same or better performance and better refinement. My 2 cents.

20. The entire production run for the ZTune is 20 cars.

The name Carrera is describing the coupe model of the 911. The convertables are known as Cabriolets. Since the 901 to the current 997 they have all been known as 911's. The common shortname for the Carrera is the C2 or C4 started in the 993 series of 911's. C2's (Carrera 2) were RWD, and C4's (Carrera 4) were AWD... it is just a name of the 911. The fact still remains that the RWD non-turbo C2 bodystyle has been the same since the advent of the first 901 off of Porsche assembly lines.

To sit here and say that you expect the 911 to be "an amazing performance" machine only adds to the hypocracy in your statement. That shows that you acknowledge the heritage and legacy of the 911 name and relate it immediately with performance worthy of "supercar" status!

I'm not asking you to favor the 911 over the GT-R, that is your perogative. However I am asking you to acknowledge that the heritage of the 911 is nothing pale in comparison to that of the GT-R.

Ahh, you took my meaning a bit wrong. Someone asked what makes the GT-R better than some specific supercars. I was just giving my reasoning for why I think it is. I certainly was not trying to degrade the heritage or importance of any of the other cars.

Sorry NY. But if I had 190k sitting in my bank account WAITING to buy a car...

It would so be that Z-Tune. The fact that there's only 20 that'll ever be built... The fact that it's so beautiful sounding as that RB26DETT is... The stance.... Everything about that car just screams orgasm...

not me! imagine everything you could go a standard car with 170k... You could build the same car yourself, starting with a motorrex skyline (an expensive place to start). If you reg. it in canada you could build the fastest GTR on the planet.

but **** for 170k instead of a true exotic or something so valuable I couldn't drive it, I'd take your meat and bones 350 hp tuned GTR, drive it around, and use the rest to pay for college and make a nice downpayment on a new pad.
