I'm thinking about purchasing A Versa but now that I've read the post's on this site I'm not sure now. So tell me, those who've bought one. If you could turn back the clock knowing what you know now would you still make the same choice to buy the Versa?

In a heartbeat.

I could have selected a competitor and had one or two aspects of the car be better than the Versa... compromising two or more other aspects in the process.

If you take one individual aspect of a car, the Versa may not always win. If you take the car as a whole, it's the only way to go.

I wish I had waited, but I would have purchased this car.

I really would have liked a Gray color with CVT, ABS, Sun-Roof, Conv. Pkg. (and one with a TPMS systems that works)

I have a Black w/ Conv. Pkg and it's a really cool car, I just live out in the sticks and ABS comes in real handy on those rare winter days where the roads are solid ice. In the south, you don't scrape or salt...there's no point...it usually melts in a day, two at most, so during that time you are on your own.

When I compared this car to the Honda Fit and Toyota Yaris, I was much more impressed with the room and comfort in the Versa.

Another thing to consider is the "squish' factor (at least that's what my Insurance company called it) . My auto insurance went up $120/ 6mo over my Toyota 4-Runner (Wife's car now) and they said it was because of the "squish" factor, meaning that even low speed collisions will cost a lot to repair.....as EV has been keeping us up to date on his 'rear-ender' and the last I saw he was up to $6000 in repairs. ANYWAY....I'd call my insurance company before buying and see if you are going to pay more there as well.

Again, overall I'm pretty happy with the car and my wife loves it. I told her she could have it when it was paid off and she's been putting an extra hundred or two on it each month....if that tells you anything.

Given the same choice among the cars I considered when I was shopping (Versa, Fit, Scion, or Yaris), I'd still choose the Versa. However, were I shopping again, I might not limit myself to the sub-compact class of cars.

Absolutely YES! - especially given that my alternatives are still the same. I wanted a hatchback (as opposed to a sedan), because it was an easier transition from a small SUV in terms of people and cargo capacity and flexibility; and from a "people" standpoint, the Versa presently has no match in the U.S. market in its class. I even helped talk a famlily friend and my wife into getting Versas as well. And I would get the very same one I have (trim level, color, options)!

I'm not sure. I think they should have offered the S with a different power train. Like a 1.5 with a 5 speed. If they could get it to 38-40 mpg with the same amenities, it would be an ideal package. They could probably squeeze a few more mpg with the current 6 speed it it was geared differently.

I would undoubtedly been driving the Fit right now.

Only if the Versa didn't exist though, and if the Matrix didn't exist, or if any other cars existed. The V is irreplacable, only a few people here were really dissatisfied, but they had big time problems with the car.

I'm still quite happy with my choice, after 7700 miles. I actually went in looking for a basic model like the S with stick shift and ended up in an SL with the CVT, and am glad I upgraded my choice. White wasn't my first choice, but this week I finally saw another Versa at our local dealer, twelve weeks after I got mine. White again! I'm glad I didn't wait!

If I could do it all over again, I *might* have opted for the Pontiac Vibe I was eyeing up - but price and MPG brought me to the Versa. Not that i don't ABSOLUTELY LOVE my Versa - because I do.

However, I would have gone with a different color (i have the silver - wish i had black or grey) and I would have splurged on a souped up model - i have the S with the power package - wish i got the SL with all kinds of fun stuff like the Bose system and sunroof.

I have both the Versa SL and the Vibe. I like both but prefer the Versa. Yes I would have bought the Versa but I probably would have taken a good look at the SX4. Would never consider the Yaris (cheap inside) and did consider the Fit but the more I see it the less I like the look. Once my gas mileage gets where it should be (assuming it ever does) I will be totally happy with the Versa. The fact that I haven't seen many (well not any really) on the road is actally pleasing to me. I like that I have a car that isn't as common as all the Mazda3's I see absolutely everywhere.

I love my Versa, but if I was in the market TODAY instead of July, I would buy the 07 Sentra. It's just a little more comfortable width-wise even though the cargo space and rear seat legroom are less. (hey I NEVER will sit in the back of my own car).

Also the 2.0 would undoubtedly get lower mileage, at least I wouldn't feel cheaeted like I do having bought the Versa #1 for gas mileage, #2 for roominess. Had I bought the 07 Sentra I'd be telling myself: "if I really wanted the mileage I could have bought the Versa". Gas was over $3.00 a gallon in July also.

If you're looking right now, give the Sentra a spin. You might still buy the Versa. Hatchbacks are much more versatile than sedans in terms of hauling stuff. The Sentra does have a very generous pass-through though.

Good luck.

Ben

I love the car. My frustration has been getting the dealer to fix the bugs. It's 120 mile round trip to the dealer, and my time is just as precious as everyone else's.

I might have waited for the 2nd generation. On the other hand, who knows what gas prices will be in a year, and compact cars could cost and arm and a leg then.

I think Nissan was in too much of a hurry to get this on the market and really didn't think about the American way of doing things. We are terribly spoiled. A few design features and a lot more of them, would make this car the hottest car ever in this size and price. When I read reviews, all complain about the cup holders. With the CVT, the gear shifter could be placed anywhere and the cup holders put within easy reach. The middle arm rest is inadequate. I don't care about the sunglasses holder. Who does?

The sunroof should be offered, and the ABS standard. The button to fix the side mirrors is lost. Why isn't it on the drivers door like all other cars?

I'm accidentally turning on the wipers all the time.

Running lights with an auto on at dark would be fantastic.

A lot of those things could be fixed with no extra cost to the car.

Also, how about a TPMS sensor that works????

OK, NOW you're just being too demanding.

But some of those "design flaws" are also a matter of personal opinion. I happen to think that the cupholder is perfectly placed, the armrest is only maybe 1/2 too high, and the sunglass holder is doing its job just fine.

I would like lumbar adjust... but not too critical given how comfortable the seats are to begin with.

And the incompatibility of ABS with Convenience package, and the inability to get cruise on the S model, are both REALLY dumb.

The ones that I DO definitely agree should have been fixed before the car was released were the TPMS and the lack of automatic headlights of one variety or another (I prefer the ones that just shut off the headlights when the ignition is off, since there are some places here that are dangerous to drive in the DAYTIME with your lights off.. and an auto-on w/dark sensor would NOT turn your lights on in these circumstances)

Absolutely, I would buy it again! I turned in a 2002 Nissan Xterra to buy this. The Xterra was a lease that was up. I had waited about a year for this car to be available to the public. I might have chosen black or gray instead of the sapphire blue but the car is great. Sure there are things (minor) that I could do without but I could say the same for the Xterra! That thing was killing me in July ($3.50 a gallon) in gas mileage. It was terrible! I did get the SL and could care less about the sunroof. Nissan has a hit with this car as far as I am concerned. I could have easily bought a Yaris or Vibe or Fit.

Thanks for the info, it's nice to have a forum like this to make an informed buying decision. I'll be buying around summer 07 and by then i'll be looking to see what happens to many of the issues like TPMS, MPG, The A.C. comming on and other things. Looking foward to EV's Survey also.

I like my Versa SL. I would have preferred a beige interior. But with the colour/option choices available at the time you took what you could.

I'd like a hatch release on the dash and the akward drop down hood prop needs work. I see a lot of 'Renault' in V after having had lived in Belgium a couple of years. The wipers are typically French - one long, one short.

The only real 'iffy' is gas mileage. The glossy V brochure touted much better.

I Love my Versa! it has features that other cars just don't have available yet.

BUT........

I would definately wait for one with ABS and the Rockford Fosgate system with Sunroof. The convenience package just isn't enought to satisfy my tastes anymore.

Yes, I would buy a Versa if I had it all to do over again (either the same Blue Onyx or in White). I love the style, roominess & comfort of the interior, the fairly quiet & smooth ride, and I'm able to get fuel mileage that meets my expectations (which are not the EPA guidelines). The little driving that I've done in the snow or on ice during the past 3 days have revealed no glaring faults.

So far I have had NO problems (knocking on real wood as I type this) with my Versa SL. I've kept the tires inflated to 34 PSI and have had no TPMS warning light issues. The couple of minor things like "where the mirror adjustment controls are located", while very odd to me, are not sufficient to drive me to want a different vehicle. As for the arm rest position - I've seen some complaining it's too high while others state it's too low - so???

While I've only had mine for a little over 2 months now, two others that I know have purchased Versas (largely based upon being impressed with the interior space and amenities that mine had and my recommendation), and I know of another fellow at work that is seriously considering purchasing one next year. The initial fit & finish quality of my vehicle I find as good as or better than any that I've had.

I still think my Versa, though, is yearning for a rear spoiler.

This is one of my dead-on purchases. I love this little car! It is comfortable, easy to feed, fun to drive, and it looks great. It is my first white car after owning a ton of red/maroon muscle cars and then now converting to yellow Z06. It is a great little car. I would not change a thing!!

Come on! NOTHING?? Not even the placement of the cup holders? I HATE where the front cup holders are. What were they thinking? You have to lean forward and then manoever your cup past the shifter and under the lower part of the dash. PITA. However..... that is really the only complaint I have so far (gas mileage aside). When the only complaint I have about a car is the cup holders I'd say I made a good choice. I'd buy it again.

Yeah, I really like where the cupholders are in my girlfriend's PT Cruiser; they're right next to you, and easy to reach.

This only works if the car is an automatic. Last car that I had with that cupholder configuration and a manual transmission meant you had to bend your wrist awkwardly every time you shifted to avoid hitting your arm on the top of any cup in the cupholder (which would result in the top coming off and the contents spilling).

I still don't understand why people say that "maneuvering" the cup is all that difficult, I just don't see it. I don't even really have to bend forward to get my cup either. And it's nice that it is COMPLETELY out of the way of the shifter. In fact, the cupholders that are "right next to you" in the Tucson are actually a little harder for the driver to reach than the cupholders in the Versa, thanks to the center armrest.

Y'all are backwards.

Nope. In a CVT, the cup holders should be right in front of the armrest. The gear shift should be on the steering column where it belongs or on the dash like Honda does theirs. It is not necessary to have it between the seats!

Nissan got it right by putting the cruise on the steering wheel, however.
