hey everyone, when u take the air filter off u can see the mesh at the entrance of the maf, i imagine thats to prevent big particles from entering the engine but if i have the air filter on well i think that could be slightly restricting.. or quite so even.

is it safe to remove it?

or whats up with it hehe

tnx max

its not neccessary at all to remove it. it doesnt affect flow enough to do anything.

actually the mesh has quite a bit to do with the totall restriction of airflow that the maf presents removing it will help some.

autospeed.com had an article about removing the screens at one time, I went back and they arent viewable for free anymore but the screens are pretty significant restrictions.

your air filter is more of a restriction than the mesh. if youre not going to remove the filter then why the mesh?

FYI - The mesh is there to help smooth the airflow before it passes over the sensor, so the readings are more accurate.

And it realy doens't affect flow much...maybe when you're flowing ~250rwhp worth of air (i.e. - turbo KA), but not at stock levels, or even N/A levels.

Leave it.

A buddy of mine pulled the screen out and unfortunately his air filter lost a bolt and gulp! "ladies and gentleman, we are here to lay to rest one expensive Greddy turbo. Cut down in it's prime by a 10mm bolt".Pulling the screen offers little or no improvement with a notable increase in risk.
