The Memory on my deck on stay

hey im new here..i put in a pioneer deck and seem like theres no power going to my deck so i wire stright from the batt. and it work. i know thats bad ive been driving for couple month now and its drainin my batt. so i took it off and one of my friend told me to hook up the red wire to the yellow and it work but the memory wont stay on when i turn off my car and turn it back on..any idea how to make the memory stay on..

Drive a 95 nissan 240sx . i'll upload the pic in the morning. i connected all the wire to the same color purple to purple etc....the deck works but no memory stay...

the yellow wire needs to get 12v ALL the time for the memory to stay. hooking it straight to the battery would have been fine. the red wire needs to be connected to a 12v switched source, where it only gets 12v when the key is on. haviung it hooked up this way should NOT drain your battery when the key is off. however if your deck is messed up, old, defective, it may still slowly draw power from your battery even when its off. seen it happen with alarms anyways. some newer decks save they're settings in a non volatile memory i think. which would not require a constant 12v source.

i have a new deck Pioneer Premier DEH-P600UB.. yeah at first i did straight from batt. it work fine..i'll put it back on and see wat happen. does it matter if i put a kill switch on the wire from the batt and to harness will this stop the drainin of batt jux in case it if it drain..thanks

do just like clss240 said. I'm not sure which wire you are talking about for the switch. all you have to do is find a constant hot wire and wire it to your yellow and find a wire that is only hot when the key is turned for your red wire. all you need is a test light to determine this. this is if your factory harness is messed up, which it sounds like it from the way you are talking.
