How much power can a stock motor handle before it will let go. I have a turbo setup that can rev all the way out to 8000rpm and can handle 30-35lbs of boost. I know that I will not be coming close to seeing that yet, but im wondering how much horse the stock motor can hold. thanksJake

depends on how well its tuned. with fine tuning, some say 10psi, some say more, some say less. if you're using a FMU, id say 7psi ABSOLUTE max, its just too much pressure in the rail.

Assuming your fuel issues are taken care of and your ignition is setup right, I don't see why you couldn't crank out 400hp. I'll be doing some serious experimenting when I get back from Japan. Just so we can have a decent answer to this very common question.

What turbine are you using??

im using a PTE 63trim turbo with a 3inch inlet. its got a garret 63trimgt wheel and i think now a t4 housing. Im kinda scared its a large turbo that can run around 650hp easy

sorry here are better specsThe turbo is going to be a t3/t4. 60-trim with I believe a (aroundish) .63 A/R turbine, .60 A/R comp, and a 76 trim t350 wheel.

Most that's been done on stock bottom end is 357rwhp...

There are a few people running 12-13psi, daily driven, with auto-x use, track days, etc...making 300-320rwhp with no issues...been like that for almost 2 years.

That's not to say you can't make more...but currently, no one has. And I'd guess it won't really be that hard - Most these are on on JWT ECUs, so there's some safety built in. With a litle more agressive tuning they could make a lot more power, but then not be able to beat on them as they do without destroying the motor.

I personally am going for 350whp on high boost on pump gas, but usually I will be driving around at 10-12psi. It seems quite a few people have done it with my setup, JWT ECU, 50lb. injectors and t3/t04e 50 trim.

I'm most of the way to having all the parts, so it shouldn't be much longer now.

Maybe not "quite a few"...but doable in any case.

That's a proven setup.

Make sure you're base timing is in check (per JWT...I think they call for 15btdc for that kind of program), and I think you'll need cams if it's an S14. S13 cams work great, better yet are the Nissan Motorsports cams.

Enjoy! - Brian

It's an S13.

101k miles and perfect compression. I take very good care of it so I don't expect and problems, and even if I do have problems, I have another car I can use until everything is sorted out.

What's stock timing at? And I need to set it at 15 degrees BTDC? I'll confirm with JWT, I have the JWT ECU, only tuned for N/A, I'll be sending it in for a retune in a couple weeks.

Dunno exactly what S13 stock timing is...I think that all the DOHCs are 20 BTDC.

For higher boost, JWT may reccomend lower (static) timing.

Check with them and let us all know...

You won't get near that much on stock internals. In fact, getting anywhere near 650(which is a personal goal of mine) will take some serious building and tuning. You can't do with run of the mill cams and intake stuff. Your going to need a serious rebuild.

350-400 is what I'd say the stock parts could take on a really good tune. But not much more then that before you pop somthing.

Chris May made 418 hp and he's had alot of problems with his ka24. Besides the 3 or 4 rebuilds hes had to do. No offense but....Chris has given the ka a bad rep

Yeah, Chris had a lot of bad luck - He had a bullet-proof motor built by Rebello that died due to some weird tuning issue, he had another 2 stock blocks die on Road Atlanta during track days, one from a bad Deltagate, etc...so not really given the KA a bad name - He's just pushed WAY harder than most of us would.

And he made 438rwhp on race gas at 23psi on the heavily built motor. Dyno is here...

Jay from Orlando (PSI240SX) also made 412.1rwhp and 412.1 rwtq on his old built 8.5:1 motor - He just had overheating problems, so he had to replace more headgaskets than I can count.

Yeah, but when you talk to Chris in person the story is that much better.

I went to a 'track day' at Road Atlanta for a 240SX meet a couple years ago, when he still had the built motor, old body kit, and the wheels that are shown in the SCC article - Had to stop lapping that day due to a lost WG bolt, so it wouldn't build boost IIRC.

It's a shame he's parting it out...

I would of bought it if it didn't have the ground effects and the sound system in it. $17k is too much....when he had the old body style. What parts does he have 4 sale???
