What if a guy with only a left arm wanted to drive a sports carAppleBonker wrote:I love the gawker network. In an SUV/truck, I don't know that I need a manual. But in anything sporty, I have no idea why auto is even an option. If you're too lazy to drive stick, you don't deserve a sports car.
My first question would be why? Is he going to try some spirited driving? At the risk of sounding completely insensitive, I don't know that I want him testing that on the roads. If he's gonna take it to the track, have at it.yoonzilla wrote:What if a guy with only a left arm wanted to drive a sports car
i agree, if we had stricter driver training and requirements implemented, then we could raise the speed limit on our nation's highways and be able to travel in a safer and more spirited environment.AppleBonker wrote:

Driving is a privilege, not a right. If the another driver is going to put me at risk, they should not be on the road. I'd feel the same way if I were the one putting others at risk. IMO, texting/reading/websurfing whilst driving should be punishable by jail time. I'd love if it took a 6 month course with a 1-2 week grueling road test to get a license in this country. Tons of people would fail, but it'd be safer for me on the roads (assuming I wasn't one of those that failed). Call me selfish, but I want for myself and my loved ones/fiends to make it to their destinations safely.

As far as mandating manual transmissions, I don't like that. I opted for the Auto because I use this car as a daily driver for commuting. i do enjoy driving stick, but it's a pain in stop-n-go traffic. Not to mention driving in San Francisco with a stick!!
Maybe it's my old age, because when I was in my twenties I couldn't see why everyone wouldn't want a manual!! Now I see, though...now I see.
Your absolutely right, and thats exactly why they will disappear. 95% of the driving population cant/doesn't want to drive a manual transmission. It's considered to be inconvient and you get less gas mileage nowadays with a manual transmission (new 2010 corolla for example).JAFO wrote:As long as there is demand for Manual Transmissions, car companies will continue to make them.
