Hi all,
The first batch of M's were delivered in NJ last Friday to several dealers. All seem to be the x wheel drive. I got to get down there and check it out the other day. I do not own an M, but interested in the new one.
I already own a car with all the bells and whistles that the M has, so nothing quite jumped out at me as "wow amazing new tech - gotta have it" If you've seen this type of tech before it will be nothing new.
It looks nice stock. Not as impressive in person as it is in the online infiniti website photos. It looks like a regular infiniti brand styled car. None of the cars ordered have the technology package, or spoilers, except for one m56x.
The tire gap between the wheel wells is pretty high on the x. The pictures online are probably showing the sport with 20s.
The stock wheels look a little dull, so changing them is probably something that has to be done. The NAV screen is very clear and bright. The XM also allows you to set favorite artists and notifies you when they are playing (not sure if this is present on the old M) it also announces verbally the weather alerts and traffic.
The car has a lot of potential if you add some of the fancy options, or your own aftermarket stuff.
I am interested in it, but nothing about it has particularly made me get that gotta have it now feeling. I am in a wait and see attitude unless I get a good deal.
I test drove it on the local roads and highway. The steering is very tight, and it feels like a solid car. It is a little bumpy, but the bumps are dulled or muted by the suspension. After all it is more of a sport sedan.
The interior is solid also. The cabin is quiet, and not a lot of road noise, but I did hear the tires. The michelins are pretty loud on the asphalt. All in all, it feels very well put together. The leather on the seats with the premium package is comfortable and does not look or feel cheap.
I noticed a slight vibration at 70 mph, but it wasn't that bad. I also experienced the rev matching for the first time, slowing down from 70 to 45-50 quickly, the trans bumped to a lower gear and the engine rev'd very high while I was still pressing the brake to slow down further. It felt strange, but I know this is characteristic of this transmission.
Curious to see others first impressions of this car?
