some of you may know me as ch1873857 on a bunch of other boards. been around since '04. no noob. used to be a CA guy then an rb20 guy. sold all my s*** when i joined the air force. started building another car, wanted another 20 but circumstance prevented that. picked up an rb25 s2 swap from JEI for the price of a 20 swap. plus my old beat KA to get a 20 trans ( i know but my power goals are limited). fine with me! problem with this is i knew NOTHING about the 25 until a week ago when i picked up the motor. what i know.

s2 turbos have ceramic turbines and plastic compressors and a PROPOSED limit of 10-12. probably would push it past 11. i know a guy that drifted numerous even at 14. a failed EBC caused overboost to 18 and demolished compressor.

370cc injectors with a PROPOSED hp capacity of 300-325hp

maf is good to 380hp supposedly?

my only concern as far as reliable boost goes is the achilles heal of the 25. the ring lands. if anyone has first hand experience with failed ring lands please give some input. ive been told that the distance between the top piston ring and the top of the piston is minimal, first thing to heat up under higher boost levels, ring lands fail, gouge cylinder walls, loss of compression, yadda yadda.

what i need is for someone with first hand experience to tell me what i need as far as upgrades for a power goal of 325whp 350 max.. i feel like using stock 25 parts will give me the numbers i want with PROPER tuning but close to maxing them out. as long as i dont max them out i dont care. i dont want to upgrade s*** unless i NEED to i learned the hard way NOT to bite off more than i could chew, which is the story behind my CA which in the 2 years i had it, had 4 months of good driving time, if that.

i would LOVE to just upgrade to the 300-350 hp range AGP turbo or a 57trim t3/t04e. boost 1 bar-ish to reach my goal, not touch maf or injectors, prob get a piggyback and a wideband to monitor parameters realtime and tweak where i need it. i would really love for carl h to chime in on this...he may just get a client out of it..

like i said 350hp is my goal, all i need for a well balanced drifty car.. im not a noob i just want good solid information from first hand experience, proof and dyno charts would be f***. if this thread goes anywhere ill throw some pics up of my build, show you guys what im working with. im looking at a sub 2000 dollar rb25 swap. what could be more interesting than that?

I will get you data as soon as I slap my PFC, and injectors on. I'm running an AGP Delta 48.

There's a guy on the hybridz forums pushing about 525whp on a fully stock rb25 long block, and something like 100 shot of nitrous for more power. I believe the first motor lasted 2-3 years of drag strip abuse like that and he just dropped in another long block after it blew.

But basically he ran boost only, 525whp, for 2-3 years reliably then later with the extra 100hp it blew.

I saw on face book a guy had a RB20 rebuilt with oem parts and its making 600whp and its not a dyno queen either.

Basically if your engine was taken care of in its previous life and it's pistons and all that are in good shape, 350whp with a GOOD TUNE is no problem.

I'm likely going to re use my stock pistons. But if I can't find a decent priced set of rings, I'll probably get some forged pistons because they aren't much more then the rings I have been finding. I'd like to try a couple of turbo setups I have in mind, and that would make it easier/necessary for forged pistons and a new clutch. So I'm not exactly sure what I'm going to do.

But really 350-450whp is plenty doable if your engine is in good shape. A new gasket kit, including the head gasket and arp head studs and your fine for a long time.

f*** a yeah i hope my engine is strong. really no time to go replacing a bunch of crap but that doesnt mean i wont do it. definately will. think im going to run 10psi on the stock turbo for awhile. i dont know if i want to stay with the 25. can decide until i see how this goes. crossing my fingers until i get it running. figure out my problems. series 2 engine, series 1 ecu. and a series X harness. haha
