The leather used in a J-30

OK, folks,

Here might be a good question;

I have noticed over the years that no car interior has the scent of the J-30's. I believe this scent is directly contributory to the type of leather used throughout the interior specifically the seats and door trim.

So my question is,
what exactly is this leather that is being used in this car?
...and...
is it available to us for repairs/restoration projects?
Can we buy this leather anywhere?

I would be interested in both black as well as the light tan colors used in these cars.

I've noticed the same thing. Nearly every J30 I've been in smells the same. I'm not sure what type of leather was used. I've noticed it is much softer and smoother than the leather in a Maximas or I30s.

Its genuine leather. For the J30, Nissan had benchmarked connolly leather like what was put in Jaguar's of that era. In later years, to cut costs (remember Nissan was in serious trouble in the late 90's), they moved to genuine/synthetic leather mixes or synthetic leather (like what Mercedes uses). Since its cheaper and lasts longer.
