I read the whole thing, I like reading people's story's and trials. Can any of ya'll imagine going through something like this and all you can think about is the 240 in question? All I can say is Damn. Good luck to you and hang in there bro.

Hey Guys short update its been very busy around here havnt had anytime to get any work done we have been in and out of hospitals for a month now. The disease has started to spread further. So we took some time off to do a few things. I will hopefully be able to get back working here shortly.

I wasnt sure what to make of the car in the first 2 pics then you posted up some washed pic and well it made me think it had some hope. But my lord that rust dosnt look good at all man, I wouldnt do another thing to that car untell i checked the whole thing for rust and fix it all.

Just my .02 I never really got why people put wheels and exhaust's and stuff on cars that need paint and body work first, get it looking good and not eating itself then you can get the go fast stuff...

Yeah i have done a once over on it a few times before, the main portion of rust is on the hatch its self, frame has a little in one spot have not pulled carpet yet. The reason i had to do wheels and exhaust originally is because when i bought the car the exhaust was rotting, headers had holes and entire exhaust system did as well barely holding together. Wheels on the other hand were fine till i had a tire pop and ruptured the wheel, then i found out another wheel had a crack in it as well, so for safety reasons i just purchased a cheap OEM size replacement set from xxr it was like 200 bucks to replace 2 of 4 broken rims great deal.

krash wrote:No offense but I don't think building a car is the most effective way to spread the word about your wifes disease... Then again I'm just some dude on the internet that knows close to nothing about your situation. Whats your plan with it after you build it?

Thats really tragic what happened to your wife man, I hope for the best for both of you. :frown:

The car looks 100% better after that wash though

The Main reason i am doing this is because the one thing we both always wanted to do since our first date was attend car shows and restore several different cars including this 240, this 240 was our first date we spent the entire night just driving around. There is an organization that goes to medical conferences and walks for MS and other things to talk about this disease as well, but basically anyone is at risk for the disease and i feel if they have that covered why not reach out to another section of people to inform them as well. The more knowledge people have about it the more interest it can get and people might start actually finding a cure.

This Car Came with Black interior and that's how its gonna stay except for the fiberglass portions for speakers those will probably be some form of matching purple to flow the color scheme in and out of the car.

I feel for you man. I think what you are doing is an awesome idea and I hope it brings awareness. Sounds like you definitely have your work cut out for you but in the end it will be worth every penny.

I demand timestamped pics of wife sitting in the car. Otherwise I'm going to have to say that that was a really cool story, bro.

Are you f*** naive? This is the internet we're talking about.

Several red flags:
1. No pictures of wife, at any given point.
2. Story is incredible.
3. Title is "Kats eyes fund" build.

Red Flags? You sound like the s*** head on the life lock ads on TV! STFU bout your red flags and shove them :chuckle: ... what do you have to loose if he was lying? Its not like he collected a charity from people! Save your "red flag" speeches for the questionable mayonnaise on your girlfriends shirt!

I advise you to stay out of this thread unless you have something positive to say. Call me naive, but I'd take the story at face value and only question if he threw up a paypal address and asked for money. Now you're just coming across as an insensitive jerk for no real reason.

Hey Guys,

Its been almost 2 years since i last logged in i apologize i haven't provided any updates until now.

The wifey took a big down turn and i lost my job shortly after announcing the project.

I do have some good news though

We are now at 4 months past the time frame the doctors initially gave her and she is stable.

I also have a new job and i am starting the project up again(as well as moving into our own house soon), it will be a slow process, unfortunately the car is in worse condition now due to a few winters in the snow.

But in the next couple of weeks i will be starting to do some basic body patches and getting the car up to code to be registered in the state. I.E. Working side marker lights, Cat Converter, New battery and possibly some audio work(Just bare wires hanging out now)(and anything else they try to nickel and dime me on). Once everything has passed inspection the real work will begin. :werd:

Pictures and updates to follow soon.

Hey Everyone due to the weather i haven't had much time to work on the build recently.
Image

We finally thawed out and had the first reasonably comfortable day in a long time yesterday. So i was able to get a few things done and snap some pics.

Removed the old horrible spoiler....
Image

Unfortunately it has caused a lot of damage already. I plan on trying to use some fiberglass patches to block the holes until i can replace the hatch all together.
Image

The cardboard flooring under the carpet completely disintegrated so i went ahead and just removed the carpet from the hatch.(anyone have any ideas on how to get a new one)
Image

It looks like there is going to be alot of rust damage to fix, I am going to pick up some scrub brushes and try and clean out the hatch so that i know what im working with. I am thinking that once i clean things up, trying to just sand off a bit of rust and spay down a layer of undercoating. I havnt been able to decide yet if i will just remove the fuel tank and the spare tire and just weld a flat floor down and use a fuel cell or keep it like it is. Any feedback would be awesome.

I am curious if anyone has had any luck repairing the fuel door release without having to buy a new release cable? I was thinking maybe of superglue/weird a small washer to hold the pin in place. (the plastic washer is all that is damaged.
Image

So the entire mounting spot for the battery is completely rusted. I Have a plastic floor sitting there at the moment to hold the battery.
Image
Image

I was able to hook my infinity speakers back up, thinking of putting the new stereo in today. I picked up a Boss RGB deck for 35 bucks, its not that nice but the price is right for now.
Image

I am looking for ideas of what to try and tackle next so if you guys have any ideas let me know. Also, if anyone is around the Western NC area hit me up looking to find some more people around here.

Hey Guys,

Another small update, Got around to throwing the spare tire on so i can get a new tire for the dry rotted one.

Before
Image

After ( I am looking at trying to find a matching set for this Rim (Momo 15 not really sure specific model though) I had a full set but one cracked and couldnt find any at the time so i replaced them with the xxr 16's in the photos)

Some shots of the horrible damage to the front suspension/brakes

After(Still screwed up but makes me feel a little better)

More damage then i was expecting, and unfortunatly no time/money to fix in the near future, this may be my last update for a few other than trying to repair some rust and things.

I did get around to clean up alot of the dirt/rust in the hatch,

Before

After (Planning to sand and use an underbed coating in the spare tire well then build a new floor with some plywood/boommat so that i can put the carpet back in and have a functional hatch)

Thats all the updates for this weekend. If anyone has any ideas/tips for starting this rust repair i am looking for advice.

Hey Guys,

No pictures this weekend, they came out really bad, did some interior work as well as a stereo install, unfortunately when attempting to crank it today fuel line ruptured near the frame on the passenger side, it also appears something has happened somewhere along the clutch line as i am getting no pressure to the clutch, and lastely looks like the brake light switch might be damaged as the brake lights wont turn off.

Needless to say im a little bummed out, if anyone has any advice feel free to through it out.

Hey Everyone, hard to believe its already been over a year since my last post.

I wanted to make a short post to set an official end of this version of the build.

Thanks to the chemotherapy my wife has now lived almost 2 years longer than they gave her. She in turn has asked that i postpone anymore restoration until she passes. She does not want to risk having the good memories of us and the car tainted with new ones of her dealing with the illness.

In turn she has also asked me to start plotting out how i want to do it no restriction on money. So even though no build updates i may be more active while trying to plan things out.

Thank you to everyone that helped keep my spirits up when i first started this. I hope that i will be able to give you guys a new vision that we have planned out.
