Hey guys, sorry I haven't posted in a while. As you may or may not know, I'm the guy that maintains the fuzzycats.com J30 site.

Well, last weekend, I traded-in the J30 for something a little more fuel efficient. I got a 2006 VW Jetta with the manual 5sp.

The J was a nice car but the miles were piling on (105k) and it was just time to move on. I hated worrying about the transmission blowing up at any time. I'll miss the J.

BTW - I plan on keeping the J30 site going. If I ever decide to take it down, I'll make sure to come here first and say so. That way, someone can copy the stuff and/or mirror the site. I put a lot of time on those documents so I don't want to just pull the plug on it.

I'll keep checkin on here from time to time. I read the forums every once in a while but work has been keeping me busy these days.

Carlos

Thanks guys. I'll miss the J30, I'm sure. I'll keep lurking on these forums. There's a lot of good information here.

The initial plan was to replace the J with a M45 but that plan was to be executed in about 2 years. We recently moved into a new home so a large car payment wasn't in the budget.

Well, recently my transmission started acting up (weird shifting, not shifting into overdrive at times, etc.) and I've babied that transmission with regular flushes, synthetic atf fluid, transmission cooler, etc. so I started worrying it was about to go up in smoke any minute.

I decided to put the transmission-repair money into a new car and part ways while the car was still working. So as it is with most things in life, I had to make a small compromise and pass on the M45 for now and get something a little more sensible yet sporty.

I'll stick around here, that's for sure.

We do appreciate the work that you have put into your site.

What engine did you get in the Jetta?

Carlos,

I think you where the first person to reply to my very first post in this forum way back when.

many thanks for your help over the past number of years.

Your always more than welcome to still post here (and I'm hoping you still will).

Glad to see that the fuzzycats site will still be up. Its an indispensable site for J30 owners.

I hope you enjoy your Jetta. Post some pics when you get a chance.

Carlos, I was on your fuzzy cats site yesterday looking at your tutorial of how to change tail lights. You only have instructions on how to remove the driver's side. Is the passenger side the inverse of the driver's, or are there different components that need to be removed? Thanks in advance on the info.

Carlos,

I hate to hear the J is gone. 105K? You were just getting that puppy broke in. I understand though. My '95 J started doing the exact thing yours was doing and I too had feared of transmission failure. It was that reason that I traded in my '95 in '05 for a G coupe. The J had 133K miled on it when I got rid of it. I can't tell you how painful it weas to part with that car. I love love loved it but change is inevitable.

Thanks for all of your hard work on the site and for being such an awesome member. Stay in touch and drop us a line from time to time.

To be honest with you, I don't know. I never had a tail light on the passenger side go out.

It should be the same. The only thing that I'm not sure about is that on the driver side, you have to go where the jack is stored to remove one last bolt. On the passenger side, there is no such compartment so I don't know if that last bolt is missing on the passenger side or if you have to go behind the trunk liner to get to it.

carlos, thanks for the site... i must admit, i've sent people url's to your site for almost every known J30 problem, and you helped me dramatically with the latch in the door. i've got 155k miles on my J (1993) but i'm wanting something with 2 less doors.... so i'm on the lookout now.
