I hate searching for information and coming across an article on a junk-content site like ehow or examiner, where some idiot writes an amateurish blog entry on a fairly complicated subject.

For example, a few weeks ago I was searching for instructions on replacing the power steering pump in the Seville. EHow had a vague article that more or less said:
1. Unbolt the old one
2. Install the new one
3. Add fluid and stuff

I'm exaggerating, but the article was completely useless with no tips, diagrams, or specifics. Whoever wrote it created just enough material to allow the site to show up on a Google search but not enough to be genuinely useful. The whole site exists only to attract Google search keywords, like a bait and switch. I hate it.

And then there's examiner, which acts like a newspaper, but the entries are written by idiots with no expertise, probably paid per click for their articles. They'll put together reviews or write on topics trending on Google or Twitter but offer no additional insight.

And there's the sites that do nothing but copy and paste Wikipedia articles, and the Yahoo Answers knockoffs that rarely have answers, and if they do, the answers are completely useless.

It makes searching worthwhile information like trying to find a part for a Delorean in a junkyard full of Chevy Cavaliers.

I have run across that when researching papers I have to write for school. It makes me thankful for access to a database of peer-reviewed sources.

I think you might want to talk to a customer service agent on the phone about that Jesda.

Ehow is crap.
About.com is crap.
Yahoo Answers is crap.
Examiner is crap.

That's why, when we do a tech article, we make sure it's got enough info so that the user doesn't have to go elsewhere...

My frustration is that those crap sites often outrank our GOOD content (I'm looking at you, Edmunds / Jalopnik).

I'd rather fight a grizzly bear than manually steer that luxo-tank.

It likely wouldn't be as awful as you think to steer that luxo-tank manually without the power assist if you only steered while it was rolling. My old Travelall had non-power steering, and it probably weighed more than your caddy. That's the only way you could steer it.

But I totally agree it's annoying to wade through all the nonsense on the net to find good instructions.

Google Scholar is you're friend.

It depends what type of info you are looking for. It is epic if you are looking for "the title of that show that had that dude on that channel in the 90's"

I wonder what the internet will be like when 25GB data caps roll out. How many people will choose p0rn over news, music, netfilx etc.

I've notice this for a while...but most recently when trying to find out how much I can sell my battery-powered lawnmower (Doesn't cut worth a damn)
ALL I've found is Ads by Google clones and worthless manufacturer's marketing.

Jesda, I thought that to myself today. I guess it just gets old after awhile. I try to stay away from it, but I must come to it, just to check stuff, see gadgets, read news, etc...

But then the feeling of over use, and stringing it out till there is nothing left comes over me, and I get depressed.

Sadly, solitare is the only other thing that I can play that actually interests me.
