Alright, here goes... basically, take 1 VG30DETT, cram it into a Maxima, convert said Maxima into 4wd(not eletronically controlled, just well applied & tuned differentials) BAM!!!! US Skyline(kind of) and besides it'd be awesome because, 1. It's a sedan2. It's a Maxima3. It's faster than youQuestion is, would it be cost effective, and what do you think about it?(technically it should then be "questions are" but you get the point, this isn't english class)

First off, "my opinion only though" nothing except the SKYLINE will ever be the SKYLINE or called the SKYLINE!!

Yes, an awd Maxima sure sounds nice, not to mention a tt setup for it, but do you have any idea how much awd trannys are and how much maintinecne they demand. Yet again, it would be different.

isn't vg30 in both maxima and 300zx?? why not just turbo the maxima engine, and somehow rearrange the drivetrain...eh...

Gator *off topic*

Do you know of any good mechanics in Gainesville? Who do you use? I am looking at a car over there in the swamp and need a good guy to do an inspection. Let me know off board if you want.

It wouldnt be cost effective at all! You can do anything with enough money, but it would be cheaper to get a 4th gen maxima and drop about 4k into a turbo kit. Then you can build up the engine and run about 400fwhp no problem. It would also be expensive to make it an AWD car. Im not even sure how much that would be, im sure that if it was worth the money then we would see a few out there. We have talked about this on Maxima.org for a while and its not worth the money.

Depends on what year Maxima and Z. Both have had both VG and VQ blocks :)

2nd and 3rd gen Maximas had VG's, while 4th and 5th gen's have VQ's.

1st and 2nd gen 300's had VG's, while the 350 has a VQ

Interesting idea, but not cost effectiive,. Unless you mod the motor significantly, you're going to be slower than before with the extra drivetrain and weight. If you want an AWD trbocharged larger 4 door car that kicks butt, think Audi.

Basically, I got the idea b/c, right now, I've got the FWD Max with the VG30 but it only puts out 152hp@ the crank, so you take a 300zxTT VG30(better pistons, oil squirters, different ignition/timing etc...) cram that into the engine bay, BAM! 300HP. Problems, unequal length driveshafts=massive torque steer, and I don't know if you can convert the 300ZX transmission to FWD, so, I thought set it up for RWD par usual, then just throw in the differentials to allow the front wheels to be used as well or vice versa. You could probably crib a Subaru trans or maybe even the Skyline trans for it as Subaru and Nissan both have many components supplied by Fuji Heavy Industries and have some parts interchangeability. I know it'd be expensive, but it would be street legal, and what's the going rate for a GTR nowadays?

shows you how much i know about the maxima and 300z motors. i guess if i had one i would know more, but 300z's were to pricey when i was looking, and i forgot about maxima's. oh well

Shoehorning a v6 TT setup into a max will be very difficult due to the size of the engine bay. The $$ needed for custom fabrication to utilize a awd setup is going to rack up pretty fast, not including the parts. If you are simply looking for straight line performance and are wanting to blow some cash to make a Max fast, then pull the body off the frame, sit it on a modified Nova subframe, throw in a sb V8, put Mustang rack-n-pinion front end on it with a posi rear and you will have a nice go-fast straight line performer for a lot less money than a awd v6 setup. Of course, even this will be more expensive than you think as the body would probably have to be channeled and the interior modified highly to "sit right" on the frame to look "factory".

Would definately be unique.

you should check out maxima.org. They have talked about ithis a lot of times and always seem to pan it. there a few of them w/ turbo but they pretty much dismiss the tt. As for awd **** if i know

There is always tons of info on "the .org" for Maxima folks. The question becomes: Is it worth shelling out money for a car, then 10-20k for modifications for a car that still won't be worth much more than the current resale value of the same car without mods?

There are tons of fabricators who would love to take your money for such an upgrade. Heck, the classic/muscle car world is full of them along with people who will drop a '63 Chevy II body on a Z06 Corvette frame. Heck, take a Talon/Eclipse AWD setup, extend/customize the frame to fit a Max and you will definately have a vehicle that is unique, fast ( tons of HP can be derived from these DSM motors ), and possibly handles well. The question then becomes "is it worth it?". Only the individual doing the project can answer that.

Anything is possible with enough $$

Money is where it's at....

I've never seen the floor pan of a Maxima, but is there enough room for an AWD/RWD setup without major chopping?

Tony, I didn't know you were a mod here... sweet.
