This thread upsets me, not because I'm bothered by the ads, but because the Nissan I grew up with, the company that put fun and excitement into everything from sports cars to microwagons to pickup trucks is long dead.
What the hell happened?
Sure, Nissan still builds the 370Z, but if the DNA of the Z doesn't trickle down to every vehicle in the corporate lineup the way the essence of the 300ZX found its way into every nissan product of the 90s, then what's the point of building a sports car? If the brand isn't represented by its most iconic enthusiast car, then the Z is nothing more than an unrelated one-off. You could call it a Chevy, Ford, Daewoo, Geely, or Honda because it's hardly a Nissan unless the Versa, Sentra, and Altima share its sporting characteristics.
I know people at Nissan in Tennessee, France, and Japan are reading this post. I suspect half of them are rolling their eyes while the other half are sighing in sadness over what the brand has become.
