Yes, yes, I realize that the Versa has one of the safest head restraints... But I like to sit straight up in my seat (esp. at work or while driving) and the tilt of the headrest pushes my head forward and tightens my shoulders... plus, if I push myself back against the head rest, it bends my neck in a weird place (and I'm sure that wouldn't be good in a car wreck) So I thought I'd ask if anyone had any suggestions...

lean back? try one click back see how it goes. im sure with out the head restrants it would not be as safe.

Problem is, the design is to brace your head and allow your body to avoid potential injury due to rear end collisions (i.e. head snaps backwards or you slide upwards), so the dealership wouldn't even have separate headrests, and with even the possibility of getting hurt, I wouldn't suggest removing them...

Plus, the seat works well if you adjust the seat forwards as you set the seat angle back.

I assume you've raised the headrests? That's one feature I wish Nissan hadn't abandoned... my 1987 300ZX has headrests that not only adjust vertically, but they also adjust laterally (forward and backward)

I think the key term here it's technically a "head restraints" not "head rests". .. but I call them that too. They aren't really intended to rest your head against. Their primary function is to prevent severe neck injury in an accident.

It may not seem like an ideal angle, but your neck is better able to withstand compression that being extended, so the headrest is designed to ensure that your head it not pushed over the top of the headrest. This is also why the headrest needs to be positioned behind the back of your head, not your neck.

Also be careful that your body is at least 8-9 inches away from the steering wheel. Any closer and you risk injury from the airbag.

I don't really care about them, my head never touches them, and besides TV's are going to be put on both sides of the headrests, and the rear head rests too, that is 8 TVs in just the headrests alone! BALLING!!!

You could try raising the headrest or lowering the seat so it is more to the top of your head. Try using a small pillow or towel to see if you need more lumbar support.

Well I didn't like how my neck was positoning on the headrests so I got some headrest pillows, they are shaped like a dog bone, and I lean back into the pillow, it perfectly supports my neck, love it.

But HirosRide, please reread motoguy’s post. They’re not neck or head rests, they’re head restraints. If you get rearended (which seems to happen occasionally to Versa’s...) with your neck on that dogbone, you could do some serious damage to your neck. We can’t have fans of Hiro getting hurt in their V’s!

kc5f, I think maybe based on the height of v drivers, it would make a difference, I got into a bad accident a while back and my neck and head need to be supported or else I get really sore driving, it pretty much sux but then I heard from some that these neck pillows actually helped when they got rear ended etc, it prevented whiplash for some. I decided to try it and it is great for me, I don't think it would would be for everyone but I love leaning back and having everything supported.....it is so comfy.....you know those funny wavy temper pedic pillows, it's kind of the same kind of thing.....different strokes for different folks.

Oh and one more thing, the farther back my head is the better. I have been hit by and airbag before and it hurts like a mofo.....it made my mouth bleed like crazy and my lips were swollen for a few weeks......meaning I'm leaning back like Fat Joe said.

Why would anyone want 8 screens in their car?

OPTIONS!

You can watch from the hood of your car, the trunk, by looking at the back seat instead of the road, all of that good stuff.

Sorry, I just don't get these 4000 watt stereos and multiple video screens in a motor vehicle, especially one as small as a Versa. It's just seems like ridiculous overkill. I don't have half that much wattage in my home theatre in my living room.

The square footage of a Versa is less than the smallest bathroom. I mean, what's the point?

Honestly, I almost die laughing at these cars when I pull up beside them. Big old stickers on their windshield, 22" rims and this little sliver of tire, sheetmetal just buzzing like crazy. It's so dorky looking. I'm almost embarassed for them.

Well, time for my two cents...

When you've got a bad lower back like me, sitting bolt upright sucks, no matter how you slice it. Even one notch back from upright was WAY more comfortable.

And also having been rear-ended in a V, proper seat and restraint position, I found, were FAR more important than comfort. The V has ACTIVE head restraints, not passive. They move during a collision. Freaky freaky thing, I have to say... the head restraint basically flew up behind me and whacked me in the back of the head. After the initial WTF moment, I realized that it was supporting and decreasing the stop force on my neck so it wasn't nearly as violent of an injury. The result is that my neck was sore for one day after the accident, my back was sore for about three days, and that was it. With regular chiropractic care, I felt like nothing had happened less than a week after the accident.

Which gave me time to worry about more important things, like ranting at the other guy's insurance company because they were trying to refuse responsibility. (I won, obviously)

Edit: Note about Pimping ze Ride... for every guy who thinks it's juvenile and ghetto looking, there's another who loves it and is proud of his whip. I used to be a ricer myself.

Just don't mistake a screen for an airbag. The layer of glass under the acrylic is not tempered.

Wow... we've been all over the map with this one...Yes, I realize that they are head restraints... I've tried to lean my seat back, but that is really uncomfortable and I always move it back upright (that was one of the things that sold me on the V... the fact that the seatback didn't stop at a lean, but that you could set it upright).

I'm kind of stuck in a conundrum because I'm not short but I am... I'm 5'5" (which isn't short) but my legs are almost 3' of that so my torso is incredibly short (my mom's taller than me by a good 4 inches and my inseam is 3 inches longer than hers - it's a 34) ... so I have my seat slid far from the steering wheel, but the bottom of the seat raised... I wouldn't dream of removing the restraint, but now that I know how it works (thanks Greek.inuit and motoguy) I guess I'll just have to try and adjust how I sit in my V... or get used to the restraint... I do wish that I could adjust it backwards somehow... Thanks for the technical info!!

Wow again... ;oD (you posted while I was typing apparently)Yeah... I'm going to have to play around in my seat and find something comfortable... (It hit you in the back of the head?!? I knew it took the force, but I guess I didn't give much thought to how.... )

Additional: For those you of mentally doing this (couldn't find one scratching it's head) over why I like to sit bolt upright... a little 'splainin is in order: I carry tension in my shoulders (bad enough to give me migraines) so I had to do meditation exercises and other stress reduction techniques I learned that if I carried my spine neutral and well supported, the tension would stay away... For me neutral happens to be upright... when upright, the headrest of the Versa pushes my head forward, so maybe I can lean it back slightly and put a pillow under my upper back...

Don't forget replacing the air bags with lcd's, a rear mounted camera so you can see everyone's reaction to your car, and screens under the seat. Why? How many times have you been vacuuming out your car and thought, "I wish I could be watching TV right now."

That might be kinda hard for me, I've seen a lot in my short time here on earth. Maybe if you can get the hatch to turn flips like a acrobat, I'd have that reaction

My next project will probably be mounting a plasma screen TV on the roof and switching all of the seats out for a futon. I'd prefer to have my lounge in my car, not my house.

Clipsed will have fun the first time he gets rear ended and is pulling glass from his scalp i mean lcd's on the back of head rests are nice, but who in their right mind would put them on the front and back? i guess if you want to watch tv while backing up its cool though too, but don't forget the popcorn machine in the cent sonsoul

The best place for a LCD is the rearview and even sideview mirrors. Just add a rear facing camera in case you actually want to see behind you... otherwise you can play some sweet movies. IF you toss out the drivers airbag, there's plenty of room in the steering wheel for a 4th one.

2 flip downs, one where the dome light is, another where the map lights are.

While we all joke and ask some valid questions, we have to remember that all these TVs, gadgets, and gizmos aren't being added for functionality. Clisped has made it clear that these are for show. Oh yea, don't forget about the original topic was about.
