Re: your CFLs not lasting.

Do you have one of those houses that were built with aluminum wiring? If not, you may need to get your wiring checked. I replaced all the bulbs here with CFLs in 1995 and got 8-10years out of all of them except two. Yes, they are darker as they are warming up, but even if you run 2 on it's still 40% more efficient than one regular bulb. We just replaced 60 watt equivalents with 90 watt equivalent CFLs to get enough light out of only one bulb on at a time.

It has helped us save a bundle on our electric bills over the years and we have free hazmat disposal for residents here so I run my batteries and burned out CFLs over there. Hopefully they recycle most of it.

Built in '71 with standard copper wire. No, I'm not going to pay thousands of dollars to upgrade to new wiring for CFL's. If CFL's are so prone to blow due to house wiring then the bulb lobby wins and others will pay the price. I'm going to sell this house as soon as the market starts to take an upturn (and before the Gov mandates changes to existing houses to meet new environmental standards) and get the house I'll live in for the next 30 years. I'm also going to stock up on cases upon cases of 100w incandescent bulbs.

Yeah, it's definitely not worth paying the price to upgrade the house for that. We originally planned to move from here to our "retirement" place when our son went into the Air Force but we were blessed with two "oops" kids that totally turned our plans on its ear. Looks like we're here for at least another 11-12 years.

Definitely stock up on those incandescents. Who knows how long they'll be available?

FYI, with the house on CFLs, a wall air conditioner in the living/family room/kitchen designed for a room the same square footage as our house and fans in the rest of the house our electric bill has never been above $78 with the thermostat at 81. The house was built in 1962.

Cucamonga is actually the name the local Tongva Indians named the area. So, alas, yet another thing taken from the native Americans and perverted.

The Rancho part of the name was thrown in when the towns of Cucamonga, Etiwanda and Alta Loma merged to create one city.

I dont think its a shot to native americans, just a funny coincidence. It happens within spanish as well. Case in point: in Mexico, 'Bicho' means bug, insect, etc. In Puerto Rico 'bicho' is vulgar for pen15. So when I told my puertorican aunt that I brought the movie "A bugs life" in spanish for the kids to watch, she probably threw her spatula at me thinking it was a p0rn movie or something.

- The Obama email list seems to keep growing with people receiving emails who have never contacted any of his organizations. Maybe they were snitched upon? Lists and eavesdropping is fine in the current Gov, unlike when Bush did similar (and far less) during his Administration. Where's my email? - Specter says critics of the Democrats' health care proposals are not representative of the public's view on the issue. This line of thinking follows the "GOP paid for" mentality to those against UH at meetings, regardless of what Gallup and Rasmussen polls are showing. Me thinks Mr Specter will be looking for a new job soon along with any others who want to dismiss what's happening as being due to a few political organizers paying people.

His advisers were either very much too optimistic or forgot the simple rule that unemployment is a lagging indicator, or a combo of both. What they have plotted is unemployment at its peak starting to level off in Q2 of 09. The stimulus was enacted mid February. That is a split second in terms of employment numbers. The first thing employers will do is increase hours worked for current employees until it becomes economically viable to hire more workers when overtime pay becomes too much.

During the Depression, there were large amounts of stimulus that didn't solve the unemployment problem. We had the Alphabet Soup that was to put Americans back to work through government projects. Then when WWII came along for the US, millions of men left the country, removing millions of people looking for jobs, contributing to the drastic fall in unemployment during that era.



To think that government stimulus would have an immediate effect like they predicted is sickly and grossly wrong. Who ever his advisers were on this, they need to get resignation letters warmed up because they are ultimately idiots probably trying to push agenda with data devised by "experts". We cannot have poor advising such as this going to our leaders.

Obama, here is my job application to be an economic adviser to you to give you unbiased and real analysis because I actually want to help this country and not have a predetermined agenda on how to do it.

- Obama pulls the missile shield which pissed off Poland and others but now Russia seems to be more supportive of the west's position against Irans nuke program. Sounds positive, time will tell how it works out. This may end up being a positive in my Obama approve/disapprove list.

- In the Obama negative column....Obama has requested that visas be given to members of the Burmese military Junta, including the Country’s foreign minister, Major General Nyan Win. These are the same people who have had the countries elected Prime Minister imprisoned since 1990. In other news, Obama has had the state department revoke the Visa of the acting Honduras President, who was put in place via their Constitution....Why is none of this surprising?

Now THAT's a load of BULLCRAP

- Dems put gag order on insurance companies after Humana sends their customers a letter concerning loss of services that will occur to Medicare Advantage Customers should the new healthcare bills pass. Republicans tried to overturn it and during the conversation the CBO completely agreed with what Humana had written but the gag order will still stay in place based upon a party line vote. Who will the Dems put a gag order on next? That's bullcrap!

- The Massachusetts state Senate today followed the action taken last week by the state House. The overwhelmingly Democratic (35 out of 40 seats) Senate voted 24-16 to change state law and allow Gov. Deval Patrick (D) to name an interim appointee to replace the late Sen. Edward Kennedy. This is the bill that Kennedy himself pushed through to keep Romney, a Republican, from being able to appoint a replacement representative if John Kerry had been elected President. Supposedly, their concern is not only to fulfill Kennedy's dying wish but to ensure they had two votes in upcoming healthcare legislation...Yeah, cuz they were so concerned about those two votes when Kennedy was still alive and had not voted in a year. More partisan politics by the Dems and THAT'S BULLCRAP

- Nancy Pelosi promised the most “honest, most open and most ethical Congress in history." True or not? In June, Congressional Republicans introduced H. Res 554. The bill's purpose is to amend the Rules of the House of Representatives to require that legislation and conference reports be available on the Internet for 72 hours before consideration by the House, giving the members and the public time to read the bill before it can be voted on. Nancy has refused to submit the bill. Today, a discharge petition has been filed to try and force the bill to a vote (needs 218 votes to force a vote on the bill).......SOP is to throw the bill up the day before a vote and to go ahead and amend it that night with more crap and then force a vote on the bill that nobody has had a chance to read. THAT'S BULLCRAP

- During Congressional discussions on the new heathcare bill today, I actually heard a Dem state that once submitted there will not be any time to allow 72 hours for the bill to be viewed before voting. When asked how much the bill will cost the answer was "we don't know" but again stressed that there won't be time to find out before forcing a vote. THAT'S BULLCRAP

Just more proof that the Dems in office are full of FAIL.

- New report: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is planning to include in the bill a tax on wealthy Americans, as well as a more robust government-run health insurance plan (or "public option"), abandoning the compromises leaders in a key committee worked out with the moderate Blue Dog Democrats, according to Roll Call......Why would anyone trust Pelosi?
