Your top guide is gone already. It was where those two shiny bolt are now.

The noise may be coming from the guide on the driver's side behind the upper timing chain cover. You might be able to see it without removing the cover, but you won't be able to get it off.

It could also be the lower guide, which will be a complete ***** to fix.

IMO, bottom line is that the noise is a symptom and not the problem. Your chain is hitting something. Either the chain is stretched or the tensioner isn't working.

The tensioner isn't working because a) it's bad b) your oil pressure is low.

I'm beginning to think my timing chain problem is actually caused by low oil pressure and not a bad tensioner. I'm going to have to check my oil pressure and then probably drop the oil pan to look at the pickup. :(

Sea Foam is your friend.

Ran a good bit through the crankcase with some 10w30 Castrol GTX and a fresh filter... let engine run for about 5 minutes. Drain out ... if it's anything like mine you'll notice a bunch of crap in the oil. (Stupid previous owner believed in 30k oil changes I guess? )

Yeah, I've thought of the old Seafoam treatment. Might need to hit up NAPA and get some.

I'm gonna start by checking the oil pressure. I might do the Seafoam AND drop the pan to see how much crap is in there.

Hmmmm...I suppose a tensioner could be weak due to an oil passage filled with crap.

It still troubles me quite a bit that my oil light is on for a second after startup.

Edit: I've been thinking of switching to Valvoline Synpower, I've heard good things about its detergent additives...I think Fred mentioned it.

Anyway, deCksy, take that upper cover off, remove the guide, check to see if your tensioner is working and then go with Nismo's Seafoam treatment.

Seafoam and PB Blaster are modern ****ing miracles of technology. ;)
