the guard right over the timing chain!!

It busted off and was just sittin on top of the chain. I finally took the cover off to see what the noise was. Does the guard need to be there or will my car be fine without it? for three weeks it sat in there clanging around...i cant believe it didnt do more damage.

YOU SHOULD CHECK THE BELT, BUT THAT GAURD IS JUST THERE TO PREVENT SLACK IN THE BELT FROM DISLODGING THE BELT FROM THE PULLIES.

Chain or belt??? RB have a belt not a chain?????KA's and SR20det have a chain.

thats what i was thinking, the RB isnt a chain system.

Seen it a dozen times, those things break off all the time. I guess it's to catch the oil slung from the chain & drip it back onto it.

sorry ...i posted it in the RB forum...but yes its a KA24de....I only posted in here cause i like the People in this forum more than the ka...lol shhhhh dont tell em

There is a Nissan recall to remove the guide form the KA24DE.. You need to make syure the chain is not stretched to much see the factory service manual or a Chilton repair manual for the test procedures....

lmao our part of the forum does seem to be the most popular, and I think we have the least amount of bull$hit in it. Ok I will come out and say we are just smarter and better.
